2002 gmc sonoma v6 4.3 will not start easy on cold days

Recommended Posts

I bought this truck a little over a month ago and all is good with it besides I live in indiana and it is fall here and our mornings are like 45 degrees. So the problem is my truck has a heck of a hard time doing cold start ups, This morning I had to lay on the gas and keep reving it up to keep the RPMs up and keep the engine from dieing, If I dont give it the gas the engine just keeps turning over and if it does decide to fire up it kinda sputters and just dies. I have replaced spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter. I have cleaned the throttle body intake, I gently cleaned the mass air flow sensor. The only thing Is that when I replaced the spark plugs I decided not to replace the plug wires because they looked good. If you all can give me some advice I would apprecite it greatly.

Today I took the distributor cap off and inspected the points and all of them were fouled up with white corrosion so i scraped them clean. The disritbutor has a date on the cap 10/18/2013 so I assume it is fairly new. How many think a distributor cap can cause such problems from very hard cold starts to stutter like acceleration between 5 and 10 mph. any imput and advice is appriated.
