Nothing new as of late...

Been gearing up to work on my race car, aka the "Mistress".

Bought a toolbox finally and got it put together this weekend.

I'm considering getting the Powerfold Tow mirrors from SuperchargedSS soon..., but I don't know.

Nice toolbox! My family needs a new one desperately, our current one which is a smaller and much older version of yours, looks like it was part of a train wreck, missing paint and more dents than it has tools inside, and to top it off, it went through hurricane Katrina in 2005 so its got a waterline and rust line at the bottom.

Rant over

back to trucks haha

you should get those powerful mirrors from him! I found a member on here that was selling his after having them on his truck for 2.5 weeks, nothing wrong them, he just didn't want the big mirrors since he doesn't tow much

But after SuperchargedSS mentioned that there was a "huge price increase from GM today" I would certainly try to order them today and get them for the original price of $800. I know that GM dealerships want $1000 for just the mirrors and you'd still need to install them

Post up some pictures of the race car you are working on

Damn! That's crazy. Tough toolbox to go through Katrina and all.

Nice! I wondered how you got such a good deal.

His first post says, as of today the price is $899.95... I wanted to order them last week and didn't. Damn! I could put the money toward finishing my engine build for my car though... IDK what to do.

I wish that was my wxcuse! I've never put E85 in and I'm just a little over that! :banghead:

I like the E85's power especially with the Intune's 87 performance tune. It likes to spin the tires and go in a hurry.

It'll get around 14.5-15 on 87 during the winter with combined driving.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well... No real updates to share.

Started working on my WRX last weekend, just removing some easy stuff.

I'm hoping to pick up a set of tow mirrors soon... trying to be patient.

I'm also contemplating getting some Rigid SAE/DOT fog lights and brackets.

Truck is white from all of the salt on the roads... It's disgusting.

Hey, nice truck and nice Subaru. I sent you a pm about the inTune and trans characteristics before I saw this thread. Good info on the duratracs. I've been thinking about getting them in the same 275/60-20. Tirerack only shows them 3 lbs heavier or 7 lbs heavier than SR-As, for some reason have two diff SR-A's. Did you weigh them? They supposedly weigh 46 lbs, 6 lbs heavier than the LS-2's I have. Rotating weight can kill performance (not that this truck has a lot) so I'm leery of changing. I'd recommend the rough country 2" front lift if you want to lift it. It just a $65 spacer, simple to install. I did it to mine after seeing the kit installed on three other trucks at our shop. Again, nice truck and good info.

I got the tire weights from Goodyears website IIRC.

For me the Duratracs made sense, I needed a tough tire for our terrible roads. I was also wanting a tire with the severe winter rating, so it was either the Duratracs or the BFG TA KO2's, but the Duratracs were cheaper and looked better.

I'm planning on putting a set of Bilstein 5100 shocks and adjustable struts in the spring... maybe. If I do, I'll bump up the height then. I'll be towing with the truck and a full leveled stance ends up being nose up when towing, not really what I want.

You could try the RC leveling kit then. I'm really not a RC salesman, lol, but I see a lot of them. The leveling kit is a 2.5 front with a 1" rear lift. I've seen that on a few and it has a good rake to it. And it's only a hundred and some bucks. I really didn't want mine to appear lifted, just make it look like didn't have a snow plow on the front of it, so I got the 2" front only. However, that appears too high at times, unlike the leveling kit, so the adj struts maybe the way to go.

If you are worried about being nose up get some Air Lift air bags for the rear. Will keep you with a nicer comfier ride when not towing compared to if you used an add a leaf which would stiffen the ride all the time.

I don't tow extremely often but I do plan to get some air bags for when I do tow so I can stay level.

I'm not a fan of the spacer lifts... it's not a good way to lift the trucks. It changes the front suspension geometry and cause over extension for the upper ball joints, which leads to premature wear. My truck sees almost 26k miles per year and I like to keep extra wear/tear to a minimum.

The way the bilsteins lift the truck they change the preload to raise ride height, while the shock is only slightly longer for a bit of extra travel, but keeps the truck from over extension. Bilstein has a good demonstration of the two lift types shown below:

I would prefer to get the Bilsteins to make the ride nicer and be able to raise the front slightly.

I've considered bags, but we'll see how she tows first. I'm not towing a massive amount, just the rally car on a trailer w/ some extras.

Definitely a good point. But for such a small amt of lift and now cheap the kit costs, I'm not gonna worry about.

We're supposed to get upwards of 5" of snow today, can't wait to go pull out people and blast around in it. The truck is almost unstoppable in the snow on the Duratracs in 2WD, and when in 4WD it's a monster. Only used 4WD once since I bought it.
