Where are you referring to when you say airbox? The interior air filter area? I also have a smell of rad fluid in the cab and I'm thinking it might be the heater core.

The intake airbox in the engine bay.

No issues with any coolant smells inside the cab. The only time I ever smelled coolant was with the windows down or outside the truck when near the front grille area.

The Mexican built trucks are known to have bad radiators and will leak in the passenger, upper, rear side where the end tank meets the core.

I've heard of others having issues with coolant smell inside the cab and a hazing of the windshield.

Weird, I wonder how they got coolant in your airbox? The rad smell I am smelling in the cab is also present outside the cab, so I wonder if my vents are just sucking it in. It could also be the two dead birds stuck in my rad that I can't reach to get out.

I'm not sure... but it was in there, not a lot, but still not supposed to be in there.

Two birds? Did you chase them down lol?

They were in there when I bought the truck from the previous owner. Thats a dirty air box.

Yikes!

Yeah, it sure is. An Airaid CAI has replaced it now.

I dropped my truck off this past Monday and picked it up on Friday, all fixed at no cost to me. Dealer covered my rental car for the 4 days and did a pretty good job, although I found that they didn't connect the airbox to the mounting plate. Also found a small trace of coolant in the lower part of the airbox WTF?!

Re-tuned my truck with the 87 performance tune and put on the Airaid CAI... both really wake up the truck.

Got a new app on my phone, Dash Command, to work with my OBD wifi connector. It's nice to see what's going on with the engine and some of the parameters.

I'm having trouble getting some of the diode mods to work, but I'll be getting some more tmrw as RadioShack has the on sale for $0.21/ea, they are normally $1.29/ea. I know I could get them cheaper online, but I'm impatient.

Going to try and get my mirror LEDs working tmrw.

Start my new job next Monday... getting pretty excited about it.

Congrats on the job brother! Hopefully you'll enjoy it (as much as work can be enjoyed that it haha)

For the diode mods, a good thing to do is try to sand a bit from one side of the metal prong to help make it sharper to help puncture the wire coating or just to help it find a way to slide easier when putting it in its place. Also the wire socket you are putting it in, pull the wire in that socket to the opposite side to help open room.

Or you could just do line I did, you can try the above, get aggravated cause you can't get a diode to stay in to save your soul, and then just throw T-taps on the wires and crimp the leads on the diode into male quick disconnects and plug into the T-taps[emoji106]

Thanks Mike! The new job involves more work and responsibility, but more pay, so that's good. It's an engineering position for an Italian engine component supplier to OEs. I'll be responsible for the design/engineering of the Air Intake Module(AIM), which is the intake manifold, throttle body, and fuel rail.

I'm going to get more diodes from RadioShack today, since it's my day off. I may try the t-tap route if I start going through too many diodes. I cut some sharp angle on mine with a good pair of wire cutters. The points were sharp, as one end stabbed me in the hand lol.

It's just a bit frustrating, and it's awkward positioning to try to work in when you're tall and have long arms lol.

I want to get all the lights working on the mirrors today, but we'll see. I need to find a parking light wire to run power from.

I'm waiting on my LEDs from VLEDs to replace the burnt out cargo LEDs. I ordered all 5k colored lights, as I wanted more pure white instead of blueish tint. The blueish tint makes the light harder to see, and that's a fact.

It is a really awkward position under the dash, hell, I'm short and I find It hard to get under there sometimes! I found it easiest to unplug the connector I needed to get to, trim away from of the wrap around all the wires, and the T-tap the wires around 3-5" away from the connector so that it was still easy to reach to unplug if needed when the connector was back in place.

Oh man, sounds like plenty of responsibility! Any idea on which manufacture it's producing for? (Car wise). If it's GM, then maybe you can tweak the AIM's to help add some performance [emoji6] no one needs to know you changed the design lol

I agree with you on the 5K, never liked the blue tinted lights. He's got them in his 04 mountaineer (so it's got reflectors) and all they do is blind others and leave him without much light to see. (I mean he has 35W HIDs at 6K)

If you want the ambers on as clearance lights and haven't modified the puddle light circuit, you can run a diode from the parking light circuit or the 12V constant power circuit at the BCM to the puddle lights. In theory it should give you what you are looking for

I'll be working with Chrysler/Fiat and the VW Group mostly. I wish we worked with GM.

I got the diode mods to work and the mirrors wired up. Ambers are now spliced into the turn signals and the white LEDs are hooked up as puddle lamps with the diode mod jumped to the cargo lights.

I'll probably leave it this way for awhile.

Hey, My airbox is loose in the engine bay as well. Ever since they replaced my headlights with the Vosla bulbs.

How do you snap it back in?

That's interesting....

Take the lid off and remove it. Pull the filter out and the lower will be exposed. It should just push into the rubber grommets in the mounting plate. Then reassemble, or try and push down on it while lining up the grommets, although that will be hard to do.

  • 4 months later...

Where did you go dude? Any changes?

I am alive lol!

I've been meaning to update my thread, but sadly no changes have been made.

I started a new job as an intake manifold design engineer for a tier 1 automotive supplier, and I'm swamped. The life of an engineer is rough.

The truck remains basically unchanged from the last updates, but now has 48k miles on it. That means I've put 31k miles on it in 14 months... I drive too damn much.

I've been consumed with work and my "rally car". Built an engine, put a new turbo on it, getting ready to go through suspension and brakes next. Here's some photos of the build.

Got my race seat and decided to play Project Cars while sitting in it. Also, this is what happens when you drink espresso all day during 12hr work days, come home, eat, and have no life... beard was the longest it's ever been. I look rough lol.

Between my car and my upcoming wedding, money is tight.

I'm looking at buying a 24'L x 8.5'W x 6.5'T V-Nose car hauler for the race season next year. Damn they're expensive.

That's all for now... I'll try to keep this going, but no promises.

-Mike
