What would you pay for my truck

We had an 04 and a 05 ram diesel, both had injector problems. The 05 fill the engine up with fuel spun a bearing. It was at night on I 10 at 70 mph he didn't have a clue. The 04 was in town was trailing fuel pulling into the shop. That motor failed after 2 more years. After about 2000 model year they are all a crap shoot. I wouldn't buy any used diesel unless it was a 12 valve or a 7.3 power stroke 2000 or before. I don't know about GM diesel, after the 5.7 and the 6.5 they lost me early on their diesels.

The 12 valves are reliable motors but they're dogs. The 2000 would be a 24 valve. I would be more worried about whats been done to keep after the trans and if it's been beat on or not.

The 47re is not a stout trans but will hold up if it was taken care of. Once you start beating on it or pulling over it's limits it will break and fast.

We rebuild on average 2-3 of these a month, in fact we have one out right now with a cracked case.

If the injection pump hasn't been done yet, be prepared. It will usually give you some warnings before it does like long crank starts, then it will die randomly at higher rpms, then it will just die and not turn back on.

We get the updated injection pumps from cummins for right around $1k. They go at high mileage, they go at low mileage. Doesn't matter which it just depends on when it decides to go.

Keep up on the fuel filters.

Pretty sure I blew my 4l60e running it over its limits

Every truck has issues why tear apart something I'm working towards getting? I understand you're trying to be helpful but every comment has someone negative opinion. I don't get it.

I know every truck has issues and i'm trying to inform you about what the 2nd gen cummins issues are so you can make an informed purchase. I work on and with these trucks extensively every day of the week.

The diesel world is a whole lot different then gas and i see guys getting wacked every day with two and three thousand dollar bills because they don't listen to my shops advice or just don't care. They sure wake up after the bill comes though. Everything is more expensive by far.

I'm not telling you to tear anything apart, i'm giving you pointers on what to look for before you drop money on this truck. Front end parts on these trucks are very common as well. Shake everything down before you buy it, pay close attention to the ball joints in particular.

The 2nd gen dodges are good trucks and would suit your needs but i'm trying to help you make an informed purchase.
