Cargo Lights on with Reverse Lights

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done something similar on a GMT900 series. I would like my LED reverse lights to come on with my cargo lights so I can work on my trailer using them just by turning on the cargo lights with the engine off. A diode setup would be good for this and as an added bonus I could flash tailgaters with my reverse lights when needed!

I just did this with a wire because I wanted the cargo & reverse lights to both come on always at the same time. Was just wondering if everyone's cargo light stays on after getting out & locking the truck. I've had the truck since February & only 2700 miles & never even turned the cargo lights on till tonight.

They stay on now for as long as the reverse are on if that's what you mean.

No I mean when you use the cargo light switch when the truck is in park. Take the keys out with the cargo light still on & lock it with the remote my cargo light stays on & the reverse light too. I waited for a long time & they didn't turn off until I unlocked the door & turned the cargo light out with the switch.

The cargo lights are on an automatic off after I think 10-15 minutes. Since you have the reverse and cargos wired together now they should both shut off after that amount of time if they were activated by the cargo switch in the cab. If they are just activated by taking the key out of the ignition at night then they should only last as long as all the other lights on the truck. Which should be defaulted to 30 seconds to a minute.

I didn't wait 10 or 15 minutes just wanted to make sure they weren't going to stay on & run the battery down. Thanks!

No problem! Tonight just flip the switch and go inside for a little while. Watch a good tv show and then go double check to make sure they turned off on their own.

I have this done with wire and will leave it, but I'm trying to get remote control of the cargo with the 10 minute on, for loading up cargo. I have wired my horn to the cargo light control with a diode and if I honk the horn the cargo lights activate and again it will shut off, but if double lock the truck and the horn signals they don't activate. Is there some other way the remote lock indication causes the horn to beep? Anyone got any ideas?

not sure if anyone will be able to help me, but I have done this mod, it was working great and flawlessly until last night. Last night I added a LED strip that spans the entire length of my AMP steps so that I have better side lighting. I wired that into the cargo lights. On my cargo light circuit I also have a VLED license plate frame with reverse lights on it. Everything worked great but I didn't need to use the truck in reverse last night so I didnt notice that I have an issue.

I have a wire coming off of the reverse signal that leads to a Diode which goes to the cargos. from the cargos I have another wire that runs to the side lights. The VLED LPF is hooked in at the back of the truck.

Everything works great when I unlock the truck or when I use the cargo light switch. But when I put it in reverse it works great for a few seconds and then flashes slowly 3 times and then shuts all the lights off, reverse and cargos and all on both circuits. I can undo the wire from the reverse lights and they will come back on just fine, no issues. but as soon as I plug the cargos back into the reverse the 3 flashes occur again and then all shut off

I originally could not get any of the lights to turn on until I added a diode between the cargos and the side lights.

Does anyone have any explanation for why the lights will work fine when unlocking the truck at night but then flash and shut off when I go into reverse? I would really like for this set up to work as it puts alot of light around all but the front of the truck when it works. So I'd like to keep that light if possible. If not then I may just have to ditch the cargos on with reverse and try to hook the VLED LPF up with both the reverse and cargos somehow.

Everything worked fine together until I added the lights on the side so its not the VLED LPF btw
