Katzkin leather

Recommended Posts

Not my choice of color, but love the idea of adding leather later. I did a Subaru interior in katzkin in the past. Installed it myself. it wasn't too bad, but my thumbs hurt a lot the next day (I think it was much cheaper at the time, like $800.) I wouldn't take a heat gun to the leather to smooth it out, its not vinyl. It should relax to the shape of the seat over time. You may want to check and make sure they tightened everything nicely.

I think heated/cooled seats are a $250 factory option. Did they use GM OEM heaters or does katzkin make their own?

EDIT: I was messing with the katzkin site. Seems like you can't order the interiors to do a self install anymore. That's too bad. It wasn't that hard to install.

Just a side note…….if you have a 2014 regular cab, you're out of luck with Katzkin, as they only make them for double and crew cab models. Doesn't make much sense when I only need two front seats (no jump seat) and they can't/won't supply them???

I was thinking of replacing the rear seat with Katzkin leather to match factory front leather since GM only does vinyl in the back seats of their trucks. Anyone have an idea if the standard grade Katzkin leather is the same feel and appearance as the factory leather?

Wait what? I thought when you get leather in the truck it comes with front and back? I've never heard of only half of the truck getting leather.

My dealer actually told me the that Katzkin is better quality than GM leather. I wanted leather in my truck but they were actually the ones who recommend Katzkin to me. In fact, if you go to Dodge's website and try to build a Ram 1500, the leather they offer is actually done by Katzkin.

If you really want to know how it feels like find a local Katzkin dealer and go out to their shop and they'll let you check out some finished seats yourself. I was going to do it but I wanted to wait a bit until I wear down the cloth seats first.

Yes it six it lookalike leather but when I conditioned the seats I realized the rear is vinyl. Nothing soaked in and when comparing the front and rear touch are different and if you read the sticker it says front leather seating surfaces. It is really my only complaint with the truck. Over $50k and i didn't get rear leather. My mom has a Pontiac G6 which cost half and her rear seats are leather.
