Edit: what alerted you to this problem, smoke out the tailpipe or just from checking the oil on the dip stick?

If they actually end up going into the motor to make a repair or troubleshoot you should call GM or go to this website and chat live with a representative.

Tell them how you feel about the engine on your brand new truck being torn apart and that you were expecting more from a GM product. Ask them to open a case file and also ask about the buy back program.

Explain to them that you chose GM because of their reputation and its not turning out to be what you expected.

Just let them know how you feel and maybe they will feel obliged to help.

I was driving down the road on my way to work and the the information screen said low engine oil so I turned into the nearest parking lot and turned the truck off.

wow, you were low enough to get a warning light. I am sorry to hear this, I hope they do the ethical and morally correct thing and give you a new truck.

I have a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT Crewcab. The truck has 14,000 Miles. I was driving to work and the information screen said, low engine oil. Immediately parked the truck and checked the dipstick and no oil on it. Had the truck towed to a dealership and they telling me that the engine needs to be rebuilt with new rings and gaskets. What are my option. I don't think that I should have to have a rebuilt motor on a new truck. b n I called the GM 1-800 number and they are useless.

Ouch. I don't have any advice for you but that is a tough one. Sorry about your luck man.

I had a pretty serious issue with mine at 12,000 and basically I was told that is what the warranty is for and I have to give them a reasonable number of attempts to fix the issue. You can push for a buy back but I don't think its going to get you very far.

Sounds like the rings never seated properly. Odd that they would want to rebuild the bottom end instead of just putting in a new short block.

People have been getting buy backs for vibrations and shakes, surely they will let you do it for an engine failure. contact the BBB and keep bugging GM, were you able to open a case file?

Edit: try to find out who your regional or district GM rep is and contact them. Never hurts to ask.

Yeah, a new truck is a stretch. Maybe you can get a new engine if you press hard enough. But make sure they determine and fix the cause of the problem, not just the resulting damage. If they cannot confidently, 100% determine the root cause, I think you have better chance at new engine or extended warranty. If you dont keep vehicles longer than 100k miles, then push for new engine. But honestly, wouldn't sweat it too much if the find the cause and fix it right.
