Muffler for 2000 Z71

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I was originally looking at getting an aftermarket cat back system for my 2000 Z71, but I found out that I may be able, with the help of a friend and some free stainless tubing, be able to do my own custom exhaust on my truck. I am looking for a muffler (sinlge inlet, dual outlet) that sounds good at start-up and at acceleration, but doesn't have a lot of interior resonance in the cab. Let me know what your recommendations are.

Also, I was wondering about any places on the net to look for some nice rolled edge stainless steel tips.

Thanks

i would recommend the flowmaster 50 series muffler. nice sound to it. I have the 50 series delta flow on my truck. The dleta flow has a larger case than the regular 50 series so it it quieter inside the truck. I have no tail pipes on it right now, but have no problems hearing inside my truck. I have the single 3" inlet with the dual 2 1/4" outlets. to hear what the flowmaster mufflers sound like, go to flowmastermuffler.com and preiview each one for yourself. The 40 series is louder than the 50 series and has a much more aggresive tone.

hope this helps,

Meldog

Thanks for the info, I saw the 50 series on their website, but was curious as to what it sounded like. I had also seen the 70 series on their website also, so I still am not dead set on I want a Flowmaster, Magnaflow, or ????? If anyone has any suggestions as to what they are using, let me know.

Thanks

A better recommendation is a Magnaflow. I have one on my Denali and it has a great sound! Its not all rattly like a flowmaster but deep and serious.  Its truly a straight through design as there is no restrictions and the exhaust passes right through it.  Has  lifetime warranty.  I have one on  my jeep also and I highly recommend them.

Howdy.  I would definently go with flowmaster.  I bought a american thunder cat back system and put it on saturday and wow.  Nice sounds. I think it is perfect. Awesome deep rumble at idle then people will really hear you when you get goin. WOW!!!!!!!!! dlkjkfjl; ldskf;askfjd asdkfjaskl. I love it to death.  They also sent me 12 inch stainless tips with rolled tips with the kit. awesome tips too.   :thumb:

Thanks guys for all of your help, this past week, I purchased 2-10' sticks of 409 grade stainless steel for my exhaust, it is some nice looking stuff. I am going to order a Magnaflow muffler here within the next couple of weeks, and put some 18" rolled edge stainless steel tips on. It should end up being a pretty nice set-up. I will keep you guys posted on the status.

Thanks
