The short answer is everyone here will have their favorite oil that they swear by ...for whatever reason. EG: Their uncle drove a Pontiac for 350K miles back in 1972 once and never had an issue, etc. ,etc..

The truth is that the worst synthetic oil you can buy today is 10 times better than the best oil 30 years ago. In short.. it doesn't matter ... go to walmart and buy what is on sale at the time. Just use the right weight oil as stated in your owner’s manual. And change it when stated in the book. ...every 7,500 or so should be close to right.

With the tolerances of these engines today along with the better oil ... I would bet $1,000 right now you could drive your truck to 100K miles without ever changing the oil (just adding when needed) and not have any problems. I wouldn't recommend this.. and it sounds crazy, but it's the truth.

Don't all dealers now include free oil changes? I would use whatever oil they recommend. I'll be having them change mine in two weeks (their loaners are backed up 3 weeks due to the recalls) while they look at the 5 different problems I have already.

Yes when you buy the truck it comes with 4 free oil changes. But some dealers use different types of oil. The dealer I go to uses mobile1 0w20 @austingta when you say 5 problems what are they if i may ask ?

It has 2 recalls, one for the odometer issue and the other is a software update they say takes 6 hours (but I forget what it is), the seat is loose (known issue), and the voice command is so bad it can not ever recognize any address, ever. For example, the address of the dealership is 11750 Research Boulevard. Easy enough, right? When I voice input just that, it might send me to an address like 117501 Ridgeway Cr., Beaumont, 500 miles away, and says "Correct?" Frustrating. It does it every time- makes up some ridiculous address far away The oil change makes 5 things.

I want to curse it out...LOL.

I went with Mobile 1, 0-20. Saw a sticker on a Corvette and a late Mercedes specifying Mobile 1, figured if good enougn for these it should be fine in my truck.

+ 1 ... had a good friend that did the same thing for an Acura lease...

I have a old hunting truck.... haven't change the oil in 10 years ... just add when needed. Thing runs like hell.

Oil changes are way overrated, especially when most folks don't keep their vehicles very long anyway....lease or not.

GM only recommends what makes them money.

Its not like the oil they recommend is BAD. They recommend what makes them money...so what. They are a business. That's what business's do.
