Spark plugs and wires

Recommended Posts

I am going to replace my spark plugs and wires on my LTZ 5.3L 07 Suburban @ 195k. At the auto parts store yesterday, I purchased the Bosch platinum plugs and the Bosch wires. The factory plugs are Iridium. They were out of the iridiums.

Is there a big difference between the iridium and platinum plugs? Which is better?

I plan on driving the burb till she has 300k on her. What do yall think?

Thanks.

Bosch plugs are not very good, especially in the GM engines.I would take them back and locate a place that has the GM plugs. NGK is my second choice. Iridium is better than the platinum, but either will give you many miles of service.

They were out of the NGKs as well. Guess I need to find a Napa store or just suck it up and go to the stealership....

NAPA will have them. If not get them from Amazon, Rockauto, Ebay etc

I wouldn't use Bosch based on experiences of several members on this site. AC Delco, NGK or Denso even. If you know your driving it for another 100k then I'd use Iridium, imo

^^^^ last time I put Bosch in mine I got a whopping 6k miles out of them. The rest of my 325k miles have been ac delco

So I finally got around to switching out the wires and plugs. AC Delco plugs and Autolite wires because they did not have the AC Delco or Bosch wires. Truck ran great for two days then today its idling rough as hell and sounds like shit. Anything I missed? I checked and everything is tight and together...?

Bad wires maybe...?

Were all the plugs properly gapped prior to install? I'd be willing to bet the wires are going to the problem. I'd take them back and see if you can back order AC Delco wires. I've never had much luck with the Autolites. I still haven't changed the wires on this truck. Still runs great after 8 years and factory wires.
