Teflon tape on transfer case bolts?

I've got a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71, and I'm about to change the transfer case fluid for the first time. I've seen a few posts about using Teflon tape on the bolt threads. The manual doesn't specifically mention Teflon, and I was unsure if it was really necessary. I guess I just have a concern about some strings of tape coming off and causing problems. Thanks in advance.

I would think the point of the teflon tape would be so it doesn't seize in there. Teflon tape would probably be better than anti-seize grease in this situation.

IMO I would put it back on there, I would just start one or two threads up from the bottom and wrap all the way to the head of the bolt.

Make sure you use the correct transfer case fluid too. My 2004 had the NP8 transfer case I believe and it used the AutoTrak II fluid which was harder to find than the other transfer case fluids. I'm not sure on your 2008, just throwing out some advice.

I have teflon tape on the drain bolt of my transfer case with no issues yet, its been about 16k miles since I last changed the fluid. My '08 takes dexron VI fluid for the transfer case. Just check the manual for specified fluids.
