Lights behind grill

Recommended Posts

Here is the mock up of my mictuning 37" bar. I need to cut the vertical plastic pieces out a little to make some room in order to get the grill back on to do the final fitment. Then I'll bolt it to the angled supports that it's zip tied to. I've also still got to find a good spot to tie into the high beam trigger circuit.

It's gonna be nice. Spot and flood combo, I see. You should check to see that the height of the light is such that it's not blocked by the grill, up or down, and you get good ground coverage in close before you clamp it up tight to the diagonal braces.

I looked for the high beam circuit and finally just tied into it at the driver side headlight. There's a connector under the bulb cover that has half a dozen or so wires. I unplugged it and started triggering the high beam off and on, while using a continuity light and found the wire. It's a white wire. I used a wire tap into the factory wire, which I told myself I'd never do. Then I taped it into a blob. There may be a better place to tap into that circuit, I just didn't find it.

You might read my thread on relay voltage spikes. I'm installing a TVS (transient voltage suppressor) on my relays today. I want to protect my truck's electronics. A TVS looks like any other little diode. They run about half a buck each. Cheap insurance. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/163095-relay-led-bars-hid-lights-winches-etc-voltage-spikes/

Spurshot, thanks, I've actually already got some TVSs on their way :) I read your post the other day and decided those would be a good idea. I was going to bolt it directly on the diagonal bars but after looking at yours a little more, I like the clamping it idea better. Hopefully tonight I can get it mounted solid.

For the Siverado people:

Just came across this on the rigid site, $699.99 when it comes out

That looks much nicer than the Sierra version. The Sierra one is fine if you're going full bumper replacement off road style but otherwise looks a little funny to me on the stock front ends.

Looks awesome. I like how you mounted the outboard set aimed outward for side vision.

One more of mine from this morning with the lights on and the flares finally installed after paint. 5000k HID lights in the stock projectors. Thinking about doing something about the foglights.

Thanks!! Yea, they are aimed slightly out. It's a good combo, I have one spot and one flood in each.

My setup is similar: one spot and one wide flat beam per side, wide beams aimed out. But I don't have the big bar like you. However, I think I may have enough lights for my uses.

Its funny you say that because I like the Sierra one better, I also like the full bumper replacement so maybe that's why

Here are the pics of everything installed, I love how clean everything came out.
