Lights behind grill

Recommended Posts

I was looking around online to see if anyone made a better bracket than what I "engineered" together a few months ago. :smash:

Just so everyone knows rough country now has a kit with light bar and bracket, I don't need a light bar but the bracket looks pretty simple and I might try to make a similar one, I also tried contacting RC to see if they would sell just a bracket, couldn't get a straight answer, kind of doubting they will anytime soon.

Looks pretty easy to diy with some metal brackets from menards and a little time. Good find! After I finish my basement I have a couple led bars I need to install, might be referencing their installation guide when I go to fab my own brackets.

Yup, that's the one. Multiple mounting positions on the hardware. They give you locations where it should be mounted for Silverado, Sierra, year, etc. but the suggestions were for the traditional honeycomb grill. Mines actually mounted a few slots up do to the high country grill so it fits perfect between the slots. Install was simple.

Switch was from Amazon.

Bought a 1" fiber washer that had a 3/4" hole in it from menard's. Fit the switch and plastic cover perfectly. Sanded down the thickness in it so it would sit flush, otherwise, the little flap wouldn't close all the way. Also, Had to sand off about 1/2 inch on the backside of the plastic outlet cover so I could get the nut on the switch. But was pretty straight forward. Bought another Silverado console plastic cover on eBay so I can return to stock with power outlet in a few minutes. Easy peasy.

Thanks again for the details. I've uploaded the mounting instructions if anyone else wants to read them.

Nice! My high country is a 2014 but I had to use the 2016 GMC "setting" due to the different grill. I think their spacings are meant for the traditional grills in the trucks. But that's why I love this kit. Could put it on the height that worked for me. Highly recommend. And the CRE bar is bright as S***. [emoji106]

Where did you pull your power for the switch from? I assume you used a switched lead from the fuse box??? Or is that switch constant so regardless if you have the truck on or not the light bar can be used?

Direct from battery. Kit came with wiring harness that included the relay and a switch pigtail. I just rewired the pigtail to a different switch to fit my needs.

Work in progress but I ended up tapping into my brights with a t-tap off of the white wire in the lower headlight harness.

Hoping to have it all wired up tonight and ready to go.86fad531bc69ce95c997e9d9d1dac906.jpg
