Foglights On With High Beams

Recommended Posts

Just one question. Why do we use a diode for this mod and not a piece of wire.

The local electronics guy sold me a 1 A 300v diode. Anybody with electronic experience know if that's okay?

Thanks in advance.

Because a diode only let's current flow one way. A wire would let it flow both ways. If you turn on your fog lights your hi beams would come on too

Just a question:

When with the fogs off... And switching to highbeams the dogs come on with no way to turn off. Is that the norm?

Yes that's normal with this mod

Hey folks, I was sent some of these diodes from Brian last year to share with other members. I must confess that I just rediscovered the envelope that Brian sent me, so I want to make it known that I have some of these diodes to share with fellow forum members.

If you respond to this thread I certainly will respond back but I wouldn't ask you to post your address in this thread... Inbox me and I will keep up my end or the deal...

Time for me to pay it forward...

Ok I really hate doing this but I am going to post this question that I am sure has been answered on here in some way on multiple posts, I have been from page 1 to the end and some great info on here but I am a little overwhelmed with all this great info!

With that being said I just picked up my 2015 Silverado 1500 LT2 and am ready to start the MOD process. I did most of these mods with my Avalanche so am excited to get started again.

This is what I want to accomplish:

low beams and fog lights on when i hit the high beams.

I'm pretty sure if I read the 400 post right I will need to use 10 to 18 and 10 to 22 ????????????

Is the 2015 Chevy different from the GMC?

I just ordered the diodes so I will be having a surplus to send out when they come in.

Thanks

My 14 Silverado is already quad lights on high... I have the halogen headlights... So for me it would be just 1 diode for the fog so I would check that first... Unless you have the projector style and I can't speak on them.

The table shows 10 should be brown with a white stripe and 18 should be brown with a violet stripe.

Thanks Spurshot for the write up, I think the GM engineers may have seen this thread though and engineered some plastic in pin 10 so the diodes wouldn't go into the pin.. I fought with getting the Diode in the pin for the better part of 40 minutes and 4 diodes, thankfully i had a pile on hand from previous generation trucks. The diode would go into every other pin except the fog... Damn Murphys law showing up when it should be a 5 minute job...

Anyways got it beat, not to tackle the DRL,s

Oh wow, like I said I just picked the truck up and hadn't even drove it at night yet so I guess I would have known that. I just assumed because with my old avalanche I had to do the mod to get the lows on and the highs on at the same time. Thanks and I will have some extra diodes for the group if anyone needs them.

No biggie. My 06 Trailblazer is next up for the quad mod. I don't have fog lights on it, but I tried to do the fog on my 14 Silverado and what a job... It's hard for me to do close up work and for the 6 on high mod for the 2014 Silverado I need like "eagle eyes" do get the job done. I even tried it with the plug undone... Wasted 1 diode in the process.

Oh to be young again... :tear:

I've been trying to get the diode in the #10 spot for this mod and I cant get it to seat in there. It just keeps bending. I've tried twisting and ive even snipped the end to make it pointy. Even tried all 4 different corners.

I can feel it going in good to #28 and I've done the cargos on with reverse lights and they went in pretty easy and work. Any tips to get it in this stubborn hole?

Just did this as well as the cargo w/ reverse lights.

A tip for the foglights with high beams... Not sure if Chevy and GMC are different, or 2014 and 2015 trucks are different, but be aware that the wires may not be the same color as the guide says. Mine weren't. I went off just the color of the wires alone, and whenever I tried my high beams, the horn went off! LOL. Go by the hole number (10/18 or 10/22) and hole number ONLY.
