What did you do to your "other" car (aka musclecar) today

I'm putting in a correct center vent.....so I decided to repaint the dash. hate when this happens.

Taping off soon. Maybe I'll get to roughing the current finish with 220 tonight.

Edit. Masking is going easier than I intended. Leaving some switches in because taking out the IC to remove them means I have to take the tach out and cut my hands up on rusty metal

The dyno came in at 656 rwhp. This Utah altitude had a bit of an affect on it.

Edit:just saw your Sig( rarely get on desktop version), what have you done to it? Really hoping I can find a shop to dyno it sometime. All these car gatherings and not one person can recommend a place I haven't tried! Edited by SnakeEyes

Let the Cruise Nights begin!

Every Saturday May thru October we take our Vette to "Jim T's Summer Cruise" in Independence MO. DJ from 4 to 9pm. Great music, great food... tonight was "Boozin' Cruzin' BarBQ night. It's all free and it's every week.

Kind of a small crowd tonight. With the threat of sprinkles, there were only about 400 cars there. On a perfect night, there will be 900!

Just a few pics of the hundreds of cars there tonight....

Luster, was that a real TA?

And how come you can't get urs dyno'd?

Good news is the some one in my Camaro group turned me into a place less than 15 minutes from me! It's an LS speciality shop with an in floor Dyno. Hope to get there in the next week.

First I had an import shop say they could Dyno it. So I bought race gas, drove down there and they did three pulls. Every time, after 4800 rpm the graph jumps all over. They claim bad timing. I showed graph at a hot rod site and the guys there turned me to a member who had a ton of dyno experience, he right away says it was wheelspin.

I then go to a mustang shop that has a hub mounted dyno, you can't spin the wheels, but.....they don't have the mount for 5/8" studs. Spent the last 9 months asking around at cruise nights and was just yesterday someone finallybhad an answer.

Tulsa is a black hole for experienced American performance shops with dyno! There are a half dozen dynos, but those are either import or "anything" shops.

Its all motor, no adders.

Last dyno, it hit 480 at the wheels before the "wheel spin" at around 5200 or something. Engines built similar to mine usually peak at 6000 or more. Redline is 6600, and since that dyno I discovered and removed an 8 degree retard. Turns out it used to have a blower, and I'm guessing the builder forgot to take the retard off after rebuilding it to an NA car. Had a few guys that have looked the car over say I could have picked up as much as 50 HP from fixing the retard. I REALLY hope so. I want this 541 to make 1 HP per ci at the wheels and if it does keep climbing to 6000+ I should see that.

Very impressive for all motor.

Thanks.

There is almost as much money in the engine as I paid for the car. I joked I bought a nice engine with a car attached to it.

Everyone cross their fingers and wish me luck, I'm attacking the lower dash with sandpaper today. If all goes well I have the first few light sprays of paint on it.

I'm pretty sure its the original 48 year old dash paint, and its pretty uh...."well worn"... I'll post some pics once I am done or close. Got the screws for the factory repro center air vent that should be here in a few days. Guessed at #10 screws and clips, luckily its perfect fit!

I haven't bought the radio delete plate because I want to have a custom one. Oddly, I can't fins anyone that makes them. Would be cool in carbon fiber, or with a Firebird emblem on it. Might just buy the plastic one and make it myself.

In the mean time I'm going to cut a piece of sturdy cardboard and paint it with the same paint I'm using on the dash, I really don't think 99% of people will be able to tell. Then I'll stick my glovebox emblem on it so I know how my idea would look.
