What did you do to your "other" car (aka musclecar) today

Ugh. I'm about done working on it in more ways than one. Getting the passenger side mount was a major pain. Can only get 3 of the 4 bolts on the cradle base. Thing is very sturdy and I can't make it budge with a hammer(I may have enjoyed that part) so I'm not worried. I'll let a shop figure it out whenever I get headers(if it becomes fully functional again).

Any possible engine swap will be outsourced. No way I'm going through that again. So add a year or two to that in the plan

Pro tip: projects are easier the fewer wires they have to get in the way.

Your troubles definitely do not make me miss my 4th Gen that's for sure.

Finished what I can and took for a test drive to get a new air filter. Did a seafoam induction service when I got home.

I has to use a breaker bar to get the 3 of the four Sway bar bolts tightened down. I had the AC compressor resting on the loose bar it decided that was its new position. It's in place, but my shoulders are pretty angry about it. They, and my elbows, started sounding like pop rocks yesterday.

I'm wondering what it would cost to have someone put a BMR tubular crossmember in. Lighter, and looks like more room to get to stuff. Could save up some go fast funds and have that, and the exhaust done at the same time to save on labor costs. Clock is ticking to see how the pan gasket is doing.

I'm kinda thinking I should hold out until the next autocross that is local, so I'll have to skip one or two but I figure that's better than a tow bill from an hour away.

I think next I'll get the FastToys 104mm air lid. Still have the stock MAF but don't want to buy another lid whenever I replace it also(figure I'll eventually get the FAST LSX102 intake, and just swap it to the LS3 if that ever happens). Then I'll do exhaust, intake, MAF, and TB, freah front O2's, and tune at the same time. All those other parts will fit an LS3 also. I am still planning on keeping this thing. Not nearly as much money tied up in my last fun/spares(have a long way to go). Question is if I'll have the shop or the tuner do the stuff, the tuner I'll use does LS swaps into older and other cars also, and so he knows the engines well.

I'm planning on "related labor" for future upgrades, since you have to remove so much crap to replace anything.

Nothing will be done soon though. I need to get some more use out of it before I start spending again.

Think this might finally be the car I keep for years until it's worth plenty because it's a classic. Yeah.....long time to go...

Just a heads up that most Auto-Xer's and Road course guys do not run aftermarket K-members as they tend to break welds due to the stresses of cornering. UMI has a road course K-member that I think is released now, but I have been waiting to pull the trigger on it and see if other guys have success with them.

What exhaust are you thinking of going with? Here is my 99 SS w/UMI suspension components and Kooks LTs & True Duals:

Hooker Blackheart full system(are yours the TSP ones?), supposed to be only the 4th gen set up with true duals that is plug and play and no loss of ground clearance(Hooker has released a video showing what was supposedly extensive R&D to make it fit perfect with factory ground clearance)

The car has the Strano Suspension springs/Bilstein Shocks(these springs, their "SCCA competition" specs http://www.stranoparts.com/partdetails.php?PartID=19&CategoryID=113&ModelID=7 ) set up already, and there is a dent in the factory pipes

in my build thread there is the mod list

My exhaust is the full Kooks system. It is the best TD system with Long Tubes you can buy, but it is costly. No bending, or modifying parts, but you will need to remove the "wavy" plate by the trans and the upper panhard bar needs to be a UMI or BMR to clear both 3" pipes.

I've owned and worked on this car for 16 years - here's the mod list:

Engine:

Patriot Stage 2 Heads (only purchased and installed as I got them very cheap)

BTR Custom grind cam, upgraded larger injectors.

1.85 Jesel shaft roller rockers

Meziere Electric Water Pump

Katech belt tensioner

ASP underdrive pully

Billet timing set, Hinson C7R Timing chain

LS6 Intake, ported TB, SLP lid, bellow, and MAF

Kooks 1 3/4" - 1 7/8" stepped long tube headers, no cats, full Kooks 3" true dual exhaust.

NGK TR6 plugs, MSD wires and coil packs.

Stock bottom end.

Trans:

Spec Stage 3 Clutch and billet steel flywheel.

McLoed master cylinder

Carbon Fiber driveshaft

TA girdle for stock rear (will upgrade to 12 bolt when it goes)

Suspension:

UMI adjustable Torque arm, Lower control arms, upper and lower panhard bars, 3 point sub-frame connectors, trans tunnel relocation bracket, lower control arm relocation brackets (welded and bolted in).

Eibach springs, Bilstein shocks (SLP kit, will upgrade to a full Strano setup in the near future).

Brakes:

Wilwood 6 piston SL-Aluminum fronts, 4 piston rears - Wilwood drilled and slotted rotors.

Tuning:

Custom HP Tuners

A bunch of other cosmetic/interior upgrades (custom gauges, line lock switch in ashtray, whistler headlights, ZL1 grill, etc). C6Z06 18" wheels for the street.

Finishing my BTR custom grind install currently - here is a previous video of an off-the-shelf Lunati grind - skip to 1:50

I do know I do not want a turn down again, the Blackheart fits my needs, yes it's more but it's also a full system and made of 409. My last toy, a 10 second 67 Firebird had one(granted, it had well over 500 ci also and Borla Sportsmans), and it got old on drive over 15 minutes. I would literally lose my hearing WITH earplugs during the drive for about a half hour after I shut it off.

Just got caught in a hail storm. I forgot to tighten a steering linkage Bolt and went to get a replacement and right when I pulled in the parking lot it started hailing. Round 1 was pea size so I went inside got what I needed and as I was leaving Ice Cube to golf ball-sized started falling. I started hightailing it down to an industrial area hoping I can find a closed business with a covered dock but ended up at it closeed gas station.

Phew, don't see any damage.

I wonder if I should put LS6 intake on my "mod list". A lot of people don't know they were put on the 01-02 F Body'.

Mine is a '99 so it didn't come with it. Not sure it's a mod when it comes stock. I will likely go Fast or MSD once I get the car sorted on the current setup. Tough to justify it in reality for just a stock bottom end LS1 though.

Well, a few days no leak. So at least nothing has hit the floor, or its fixed. Found a little power steering fluid on the floor, but it seemed to stop sincr I found it, so either I worked a seal loose when I dropped the crossmember and it's a slow leak or it's back in place after some driving. Or maybe the oil leak was hiding it. Eh, the leaks are getting less important so I'm going in the right direction
