Help Please - Suspension

Recommended Posts

I just bought a truck from a guy here in Hawaii and there are some pieces that are broken/bent. I'm not too sure what they're called, so I'm coming here for help. These are the pictures taken by the tire shop, I will get better pictures when I pick my truck up tomorrow. If anyone could help me out and let me know what the pieces are and how difficult they are to replace I would really appreciate it. I've always been a Camaro guy, but now I'm dabbling with trucks so I know how to work on cars, but I'm not too familiar with truck suspension.

I do know there is a lift kit, but I'm not sure the size of the lift kit.

First picture is a broken piece. The tire shop called it the drag link.

Second picture is a bent piece and all they said was bent frame. It doesn't look like part of the frame, but again, I'm not familiar with truck suspension.

It's gonna continue to be used and abused, but I'm going to fix it. We checked the rest of the frame at the shop and everything else looks pretty good. The truck isn't gonna be a daily driver or anything like that so I don't need it perfect.

Go to a salvage yard. Pull the parts you need and install them. Get a 4 wheel alignment. Beat the truck to death. Repeat as necessary.

The second picture shows a part of the lift kit is bent; its a piece that drops the mount point for the lower control arm. What the bend would do is pull the mounting points in, giving you positive camber. You could replace it if it looks shaky, or you could turn the cam where the lower arm attaches to it. It will have a slotted mount, and turning it 180 will move the arm back out to where it should be, more or less. Easier said than done, as rust tends to freeze those things up, but it is possible, and thats why its there.
