magnaflow? corsa? borla? etc...

Recommended Posts

Some guys like Dodge, some like Chevy, some guys like Magnaflow, some like Flowmaster. Other than personal preference, for not a lot more than sound, is there really a difference in a quality exhaust brand? A friend of mine has a Magnaflow on his truck and it sounds great. My step dad has a Corsa system on his vette and it sounds great. Both are 6.2 dual cat-back systems. The reading I've done and videos I've watched all systems seem to get about the same HP gains which leads to price and sound being the main factors in the decision. Thoughts??

Type of muffler and quality of the steel will be the difference. The Corsa is made from T-409 stainless as is Borla. A lot of Flowmaster stuff is Aluminized steel, most others are T-304

I know I get treated like a red headed step child when I say this but try muffler delete first. You mite like it, if not go from there. With all the cats, and such the muffler isn't doing much work. So with a cat back your removing the resonator and then adding back a muffler. Sooo leave the resonator delete the muffler as I said you mite like it. Nothing wrong with saving money for something else.

I just posted this on the exhaust forum, I am trying to figure out this all as well.

Think I am going with either the Corsa 14866 (kinda like the black tips with the iridium metallic color? agree?) or the Borla 140577 ATAK. Has anyone actually heard the ATAK over the S-Type? Is the ATAK going to be as loud as lets say the flowmaster american thunder. If so I dont think I am going to go that redneck since it is a Denali. Ive read all the thread here, but not so much info with the 6.2L atak system or even the s-type. Thanks!

With the muffler delete, do most exhaust shops willing to do this? Is is just removing the muffler and welding in a piece of pipe to fill the void?

Yes, you could do it your self too.

I don't know about the laws where you are. But I know locally, we're required to have some type of muffler. Doesn't matter how free-flowing it is, but in some form, it's required to be there. So if your vehicle has to pass an inspection, it will not without a muffler.

Like others, I'm also torn on what setup to get. A local shop is convincing me, and doing a good job of it, that they can do a better system with just a muffler of my choice and then have the rest of the system fabbed up for the truck.

In Texas they plug in at the dash, you could call the many cats mufflers and the resonator is really a glass pack. I just find it amusing because there is not much sound inside the cab till you get on it. When I went to the muffler shop I use we put on a flomaster like always it was as quiet as stock. So I said whats next he says pull the resonator, I said lets try muffler delete. So its just a little more sound than stock, perfect.

I've had Borla, Magnaflow and I will be installing a Corsa system this weekend.

Sound is my biggest factor I think of when purchasing.

Why corsa now over borla? These are the main two I'm going between. If you could post a before and after video I'd greatly appreciate it.

Got a better deal on the Corsa. I was in between those two. I picked up the Corsa lightly used from a member here.

I planned on doing a comparison video before and after.

Anyone find it cheaper?

Sometimes a 15% coupon will pop up on Autoanything when you are browsing. I got it down below 900 once when pricing it out.

I had a 5% show up. 916 out the door. I'm leaning Corsa sport. I like the Borla Atak but the Corsa seems to have a better sound. I'd love a side by side in person. Hope your build goes smooth this weekend. I'll be waiting for your video and review before I pull the trigger.
