What gas do you use in you 2014 gmc sierra?

Recommended Posts

The way I drive is not good for getting high mileage. I drive back and forth to work 2-3X a day, a couple mile stop and go in town, then up onto the 4 lane for 3 miles, then stop and go through the business park. Other than that, short trips towing boat.

About the only "highway" driving I do is a 30 minute drive at 70mph to our fishing cabin, or towing boat to rental cabins. I do get around 22-24mpg on the trips to our place, and I got similar on a couple runs down to Illinois on the interstate.

I averaged 20.7 on this last tank of gas. I got right at 500 miles. I filled up with E85 this evening, so I'll post the results of this tank once it's gone. ade4ypyp.jpgMy put $15 in and messed my whole exact measurement up. But it would have been 500 miles @ 20.7 mpg.

That is pretty much identical to what I get around town. On the highway I get one to one in a half MPG better. Crew Cab 5.3 2wd with 3:42 gears.

Good discussion here. Thanks to all for sharing. I have a question about the E85. Aside from what sounds like a little worse fuel economy for a little better performance (WIN), is there any added wear or harm to the engine, exhaust, etc? I've heard stories of wear on o2 sensors and other engine control components from E85. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Thanks!

I've been running E-85 for about 6 months. No problems, quite a bit snappier than on straight gas. Thedrivetrain is warranted as is the emission system so if a component fails it's on GM. Personally I'm notworried.

Has anyone done 0 to 60 or dyno testing on the 5.3 on E-85 vs. regular gas? It feels like a lot more than the 25HP gain that GM claims. Gut feeling is it is very close to the 6.2 in output and that GM is derating it to protect 6.2 sales. One thing on E-85 that I have noticed is the engine is not as smooth at the crazy low 475 rpm idle (you can feel a little miss every couple of seconds), on regular gas it is so smooth that you really cannot tell that it is not running unless you listen for the injector ticks. Love this engine on regular gas or moonshine.

Lingenfelter? My initial response was that I run E-85 for a bit snappier performance and that I'm not concerned if it takes out an 0-2 sensor. The truck is covered by GM for that. Sure, I could get a lot more power by voiding the warranty. I've been the hot rod route in my misspent youth. I still build and ride hot rod Harleys. I want a dependable truck and E-85 simply gives me free horsepower and torque without risking my warranty.

  • 2 months later...

Filled with 89 last night. The tank had a couple gallons of E85 in it tho. But I'll see how it is after a few days

Sent from my iPhone.

Hey man I don't think I ever saw an update on this. What were your thoughts on 89 octane vs 87?
