Any Ring and Pinion Updates?

Recommended Posts

yes i want something like a 3.91 or 4.10 I do zero towing.

It is really all personal preference. The 4.56 gears are perfect to me on the highway, other people might not want their truck turning right at 2300 rpm running 75. It is right in the sweet spot between 55 and 80 mph. Personally I like to be able to ease down on the pedal and accelerate around someone or up a hill without having to make it shift down. IMO it still isn't enough gear if you towed a lot with a 6" lift and 35s at highway speeds. For people looking I wouldn't be scared of 4.88 gears and the highway if they tow regular, the difference in mileage will be minute while unloaded between them and 4.56. The reason I say that is the truck still feels better with tow mode on and the higher shift points.

What don't you like about your 3.08 gear ratio? I lost sleep over the decision between 3.08 and 3.42, and I'm not talking about just one night either. I ended up with the 3.42, and am very happy now, but still wonder if the 3.08 gets better gas mileage for my type of driving? Just curious as to what kind of MPG you or anyone else gets driving on 55 MPH roads with the 3.08 GR?

I have th 3.08 and live in northern Michigan. lot of 55mph roads. The truck can't decide if it wants to go into V4 or stay in V8 or drop down to 5th gear. I put a 2.5" lift and tires on my truck and now get better mileage in tow mode. My grandfather has a 14 5.3 with 3.42 and his is a rocket compared to mine. I'm dying to switch gears asap.

Thanks Mike, great information!

That is what I was concerned about, the 3.08 being a bit much for 55 MPH. Good luck, and keep us posted if and when you switch gear ratios.

If Your Doing Gears I Would Go With 4.10 For 35S Unless It's For Alot Of Towing Then 4.56...Even When Ppl Told Me 4.56 It's Better If You Do Alot Of Highway Driving To Go with 4.10.

I drive ruffly 75 miles 4xdays a week. I want to get a Rcx 7 inch lift and 35 inch tires on 18s, I currently have 3.08 gears 4x4 would it be a good idea to get 3.42 or 4.10 gears ?

4.10 for a lot of highway driving.
