Best bang for the buck

Recommended Posts

Well I have a 2012 3500 srw crew, with the 6.0 and 3.73's. Well leavin work tonight my co worker and I race each other. He has a 12 1500, with a 4.8, and I barely was able to nose him by about 4 foot at the speed limiter (here's where I miss my tundra. That thing would have walked him). So, whats the best stuff to do to a 6.0 to help give it some ass without busting my wallet? A tune/chip? Or cold air intake and????? So ideas would be great!!!!

I'll say before everyone else says it..."you shouldn't be racing that truck anyway". There, no more need for anyone to say anything of the nature.

Now for on topic...the truck you're driving really isn't meant to haul in the sense your talking. It was designed for hauling the load either in the bed or in a trailer. The power to weight ratio is much different between the two trucks. Your truck starts off weighing at least 1-2k lbs more than his. I'm not real sure what all you can do to truly change your truck other than get a tune. A lot of members here would probably suggest Blackbear Performance. Blackbear has a subforum that you can check out. Also check out the other topics here in Performance Engine Tuning for other ideas of what you can do. If you truly want to haul *** in the truck, you will end up paying some real money. There really isn't a "cheap" way to do it.

I just want to be able to have some get up and go, but I need it to pull a 30 foot trailer weighing about 10k full of snowmobiles, gear, gas, supplies so on an so on.

But we where not hurting anything. It was out in the middle of no where on a flat, clear two lane road at 2am

Ok, I've read abit on here, but don't see many on the newer 6.0 with the 6 speed trannys, which one would be the one to look at? And not to sound stupid, can you do it yourself. Or do I need to go to a performance shop to have them get into the truck and tune it?

That's a heck of a drive for a tune. I guess I always could call some local speed shops and see what they have to offer (one is a local nhra pro mod racer with a dyno about 30 miles from me)

Forget dyno tunes. Black Bear or similar can do the tune over email, and it works great. I have heard less than impressive things about the daily driving aspect of some dyno tunes. Unless you know the guy does good work I'd skip it.
