What tire should I Buy?

Recommended Posts

I ordered a 2500HD CC 2 weeks ago and do not like the standard 245 tires. They look way too small. I have narrowed down the tires that I am looking at to replace the 245s as soon as the truck comes in: LT265 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO or LT265 Brigdestone Dueler A/T Revo. I really like the look of the Duelers and am leaning toward getting them. What are the positives and negatives to both of these tires? Which one would you guys get?

I am in the same boat.  I currently have LT 265-75-16 BFG AT KO's on now and have  been thinking about my next set.  I looked at the Revo's and comparing them on Tire Rack the rate a little better and are cheaper.

Anyone have the REVO's and if so how are they?  Especially in the snow.

Personally, I think both are great tires.  I just took possession of Revos and they handled the ice and snow powder in the Dallas area Tuesday in a way that made me feel safer than I normally would have with the stock Firestones.

I kinda think you'll get the same report from both tires.  I do know that the Revos definitely stick like glue to wet roads.  Found that out this morning.

I'd try to get a report from a survey from folks who have had a lot of miles on both.  Check for the hydroplaning, noise, grip.

Do you have any pics with those on your truck?  If so could you post them!!

I definitely need to do that.  Our weather is pure drizzle and mist though.  Going to have to wait.  As soon as things clear up, I'll stick a photo in the signature.

I need to go ahead and create an album on this truck.  Maybe during Spring Break, if the weather would stop doing its icey wet thang. :D

I went with Revo's to replace my stock Wilderness AT's at 37,700 for the version reason mentioned above- wet traction.  I looked at the BFG's, but for a daily driver I didn't see a need driving around with lugs on.  The Revo's are aggressive, but they still give a good, quiet ride.  We've had plenty of snow in Ohio this winter and they've done well there too...have kept her in 2wd very often.  I've got photos, but no site to post them to.  Feel free to reply or pm with your e-mail and I'll send the photos.

I have decided to go with the Dueler A/T Revos. From what tirerack.com reviews say and what I have read and heard from other guys, they sound like great tires. They look cool also. Hopefully my truck comes in sometime this week. I want to get those incentives! Does anyone have any ideas on what the next wave of incentives will be. They probably wont change too much. Thanks for all of your input.

It seems I am to late to advocate the BF's, but I have them on my 93 F-150, and they have over 25,000 miles on them and still look pretty #### new, and if you know these truck's reps for tearing up tires, you'll understand why that's good.  They have excellent traction in snow, don't know how they compare to others in the rain, because the one's i bought the truck with were bald, but lets just say I had to help pull my friend out of the snowy mud he was stuck in in his 2001 2500 HD GMC hehehehehehe and I went through the same stuff he did without getting stuck.

Related issue:

The only tires I am seriously considering for my yet-to-be-delivered 2003 Sierra 1500HD-LT 4X4 are the GY MT/Rs and the BS Dueler Revos.  These are the only non-French serious truck tires I know of with good street handling qualities and 3-ply sidewalls.  I know they are somewhat apples (MT) and oranges (AT).  It looks like the Revos would be better in most respects, except that the GYs have a tougher sidewall and have beefier tread running halfway down the sidewall to provide extra grip and protection by the sidewall when climbing around on sharp or slippery rocks rocks.  I have also heard that the GY MT/Rs are about the best mud tires on pavement.  I’m not too worried about tire wear.  I just want the best tire for the here and now.  I will be going with 285/75/16s after a few minor mods.  I’m leaning toward the GY MT/Rs.  Are they a good choice?  The only way I would go with the Revo ATs is if I were convinced that the Revos were vastly superior to the MT/Rs on the road AND also were almost as good on rocks, sand, mud, and snow.  I’m not there yet, but would appreciate any input.  I must order soon.

Also, I managed to get an offer from a local Denver tire dealer to give me $75 per wheel AND $75 per tire for the base cheapest factory tires and rims as a trade in.  I thought that this was extremely generous.  Am I right?  If anyone else is ordering a new truck and wants to trade out their rims and tires in the Denver area, let me know, and I will forward the name of the tire dealer.

Go with the Bridgestone Revos. I am on my 3rd set and they are a great tire in snow but really are at their best in the rain ([edit] FYI, they are made in Japan if the matters to you)

When I say 3rd set, I just put a set on my new GMC Duramax, had a set on my '96 3500 7.4 and my '97 Z71. The '97 recieved the first set of Revos sold in our area back last spring.

All have been 285/75r 16. On the Duramax and the '96 3500 I had to crank the torsion bars up 3 turns, I would just touch the inner fenderwell on locked turns. Raising the bars took care of the problem with NO change in ride quality or alignment.  More than 3 turns may affect both.

The '97 Z71 has the most miles on the REVO's, about 13k and they still look great even next to my new ones on the Duramax.

Go with the REVO's :thumb:
