Cooper ST Maxx 305/60-18 (12.1x32.6-18) No level/lift

Recommended Posts

After carefully measuring the clearance of my stock 265/65-18 OEM tires at full steering lock to lock, I put on a set of Cooper ST Maxx 305/60-18 tires on stock rims for my birthday present to myself today. I wanted to put rims on it too, but couldn't get the brand/model I wanted for a couple months.

They are definitely louder than stock street tires. But not really bad at all, especially as well insulated as these new trucks are. Ride is a little firmer since they are 10 ply rated and 3 ply actual sidewall. But again, not bad at all. I had it up on the freeway for a couple miles and in that short distance felt stable and steering response was good. No rubbing whatsoever on a flat parking lot lock to lock.

I like em! I guess this sets the tone for my future mods. I was going to keep everything stock looking and mild mods, but I may go "off-roadie" on it. :D

Pretty aggressive tread for my old butt.

They stick out a little bit, even on the stock rims.

Very nice. I have always loved those tires but they were so restricted on the sizes offered I never had anything they would work on. Definitely considering these in 35x12.50 20 for my next set now that they have expanded the offerings. I am surprised that size fit on a stock truck without rubbing, changed the whole attitude of the truck and it looks great..

Very nice. Really like the looks of those. The Wrangler SRA's on my truck ride nice and quiet, but leave a lot to be desired in the snow and mud.

My birthday is next Saturday, I bought a Husky Gear Box for under the back seat last week, and a Line-X Platinum Premium Liner a couple days ago. I also ordered the Inside Drivers Assist Handle that bolts into the "A" Pillar. I'll probably keep the stock tires until at least this next fall, but really like the looks of your tires. I'll remember to check them out when I get ready to replace them, I like that protected bead, it really protects the rims. The last set of tires I put on my IROC-Z has that feature as well. Will save your rims from the old curb rash.

Keep us posted, and Happy Birthday!

I only have 8000 miles on them. They look pretty decent. I don't have a measurement. At this point, I'm not seeing scary fast wear or anything like that. But that's probably not too helpful to you guys. I bought these just before the Toyo RT came out and had no idea they were about to come out. I probably would have gone with the RT, since I have had several sets of Toyo tires over the years on my other truck. These were somewhat of an unknown for me, and still yet to prove that I'd buy them again. Only miles will tell me if I'll buy another set.

As to what the difference between the ST and ST Maxx is: I think the ST Maxx has a larger void pattern and probably deeper tread.

Wow...impressed that not only did that size fit without a level, but the look it gave it. I'm looking to upgrade as well from the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A, but plan on keeping the stock 18" rim. I'm torn between the Cooper STT LT285/65/R18 (32.87x11.5) and the Goodyear Dura Trac LT295/65/R18 (33.1x11.8). I like both, but was leaning more towards the Dura Trac's just for a tad more height, but now I've seen your setup. I considered the Toyo's M/T but they were about eleven pounds heavier per tire.

I plan on a 2" RC Level on front end though, it just has to much rake as it is now.

I've had Cooper AT3 on another Silverado I had for a while before selling it for my 2014 that I was really happy with.

You think with a 2" level I should be able to fit the other two tires above without doing a trimming, cutting or banging? Haha

Also like the lights in the grille....

From a post I made on the HD forum. BTW, my wheels 18x8.5 with a 5.5" backspace.

The technique I used to figure out what size would fit on my half ton was:
- start the truck and crank the steering wheel to a stop in one direction and loop the seatbelt thru the steering wheel to hold it at the stop while leaving the engine running.

- check the clearances front and back of both tires with a small scale (ruler). The tight areas will be the sway bar and fender liner (front and rear). Taking some pictures will also help for reference later.

- go to the tire manufacturers website and look up the specific tires you have. Write down the dimensions for section and tread width, as well as diameter.

- go to the manufacturers website for the tire of your desire. Look up the specifications and write them down.

- Do the math.. Dont forget that any change in wheel offset or width will affect all of your clearances.

-allow for some clearance. Especially on the things that are not going to give, such as suspension components and frame . The fender liners can move and/or be tied back to give more clearances, Especially the bottom edges. Also, the suspension moves up and down, but the tire does move a slight amount in and out during the travel. Don't be greedy.

- pay attention to where the critical areas are and remember: at the corner of the tire, the tread width and diameter change will both change that corner clearance.

- also figure out how wide you wheels are (or will be) and stick within the tire manufacture's recommendation for wheel width of the particular tire you select.

Have fun. I was able to put 305/60-18 ST Maxx tires on my stock rims of my half-ton without any lift and had no rubbing during driving. Others did have rubbing with similar size tires. But the rubbing was on the fender liners which seem to be floppy and not consistent in shape on the bottom edges.
