My Link Software Updates/desired changes

Recommended Posts

I also wanted to ask about upgrades or updates for the MyLink system. The MyLink system in my 2015 Chevrolet 3500HD LTZ has all of the same problems listed in this forum. Many features are full of glitches. For example, the the navigation system that won't recognize an address or the dash screen where the item highlight isn't the actual selection or a search through my media connected iPod touch that scrolls through artists fast by alphabet letter one moment and incredibly slow by each individual artist the next moment is very frustrating.

It seems in today's computer/software based environment where updates are pushed out by everyone from Apple to Microsoft to fix the obvious problems GM would respond in a similar fashion to address consumer reported problems to make their vehicle systems more useable.

I got a 2015 1/2 and have none of these issues so maybe you guys will get a good update

Actually you have all of the issues I mentioned in the very first post..and the 2015.5 trucks lost HD radio. (we own an early and late model) Hopefully we will all get an update.

Oh I'm sorry i guess you know my truck better than me.... I can change stations on the steering wheel between the 2 pages..... When ending a call. The call screen does go away... All the point on interest show up on my navigation.

We all can change between the two pages (or however many are programmed), the issue is the presets that show on the radio/display screen don't automatically update to show the next grouping of stations, they do in the dash screen but not on the actual radio. I have a 2015.5 and an early 2015 and they work the same, wasn't trying to upset you...I love these trucks, just wish the My Link could get tweaked a bit. For some reason, the call screen goes away and at other times it does not, not sure why.

  • 1 year later...

I have seen the issues that are discussed for Silverado owners, but I have a 15 Colorado Z71 and there are so many issues. One of the biggest is that GM didn't release Android Auto when they introduced the truck. But, without that there are so many issues I want to program around since it seems that MyLink is Open Source. Also the fact that '15 Silverados have a color odometer computer display but the Colorados come with a monochrome display, disappointing to say the least.

1: My stations group does not display on the screen at all unless you go to settings or the station browser screen, then I have to touch the upward arrow to get my programmed stations to appear. Then they only stay there for a limited time.

2: When using the USB for audio, to search the folders I have to go to the folder list, then click settings, click folder view, and go through the whole process of finding the folder I want to navigate to. There should be an easier way to navigate the USB. I shouldn't have to take my eyes off the road for so long just to get another album to play. Heck, I could change out a CD a lot easier than trying to get to an album on a USB stick. But we don't have CD's option anymore.

3: There should be a way to see what is playing in the audio when on the maps/navigation screen. Even my Subaru I traded in for this truck would split the screen to have the radio on one side and the map on the other.

4: '15 Silverados came with HD Radio, but my Colorado did not. Why? Again, had it in my Subaru and miss it in my truck. Didn't really care till I saw it in my buddies Silverado. I have a picture of his display and of mine in comparison, his is not even a high end model as my truck is and his eight inch My Link is far better than mine.

I would trade it in for a new one with upgraded features, even though I bought the Colorado with every option imaginable. But because I bought the truck with every option imaginable, including the Rainforest Metallic, I am so upside down in it I would never come up for air. I love how it handles, drives. It is a quiet ride and that impresses me. I get quite good gas mileage and I drive the crap out of it. The only issues I have any qualms with are the ones listed above and at $40,000 I believe these could be addressed. This is the first vehicle of this magnitude in my life I have ever been able to afford, and I honestly think I was ripped off when I look at my dad's 2016 Colorado and compare it to mine.

Go into the Nav settings and turn on "Audio Display" (or something like that - I'm not in my truck right now). It doesn't do a split screen like the previous ones did but it will give you a small box in the upper left of the Nav display that shows some text information (station, song title, etc.).

  • 5 weeks later...

I have a 2015 Silverado 2500HD (purchased 8/22/2014) and I'd like to know if there are any software updates or plug-in's for different background screens for the dash LCD's.

I have the 5-inch dash screen and I don't like any of the choices given us, plus I'd also like to be able to change the font size as the clock and some of the other info is so small that it is hard to see while concentrating on the road.

Also, I've had problems playing MP3 files in the stock radio . . . they play for about two seconds, then the music skips, and it does this on every single song!

My dealership told me that it must be my MP3 files, but that is not the case as they played perfectly in my previous vehicle (2010 Chevy Cobalt), they play perfectly in my wife's 2012 Nissan Altima Coupe, and anything else I play them in.

I did walk around the dealership lot while getting an oil change and tried my MP3 files in several 2015 & 2016 Silverado's and they all did the same thing as in my truck.

Unfortunately there is no way to do this. In 2014 GM had 4 different Themes you could pick from but they stopped offering that in 2015-2017. Because of changes to both the hardware and software you can't even get it added later.

I do have four different screens to choose from, but they all are basically the same with a little different background scheme.

Oh well . . .

Too bad that there isn't some after market software offerings.
