Well, depends. Your L92 guys are going to want premium. New 14's are calibrated for 87 I believe.

If you aren't running the timing stock to make 91 a diffence, you can pick up power with a 91/93 tune.

Otherwise, you're just wasting money.

I have the 5.3 did some playing, seem to get better mileage out of premium gas ( could have been chasing my tail) but did get better performance out of E 85. Did lose 2 mile per gallon in town. I'm staying with E 85 my truck likes it

5.3 tuned, third cat removed, complete 3" exhaust with all factory crap gone with a magnaflow 14" muffler. I use 91 or better. ECM is still learning fuel trims and I'm getting 17.6 MPG in town.

I did 2 tanks on 93 premium and averaged 18 mpg with 50/50 driving. Now I'm doing a couple of tanks on 87 to see if there's a diffeence. I'm at 17.6 right now on the first tank, but the drving conditions have been slightly worse. So, in my mind there's no noticable difference in FE between 87 and 93. I'm going to finish my "testing" and see which makes more sense. 93 is 60c more than 87 (= $14 more per fill up), so it ain't cheap. I'd need to get 3 mpg better to justify the price increase.

87 octane fuel in illinois has usually 10-15% ethanol added. I use gas almost exclusively from Shell stations.

The trucks should be able to adjust to higher octanes, but using higher octane will only help in the summer when its hotter.

Usually 87 with the 5.3 and depends since it's just started to warm up here. A lot of idling and get anywhere from 12mpg in town to 20 on the highway. Ran a few tanks of e85 and noticed the extra power...truck would stay in v4 mode much more but mpg drops about 3mpg. Just filled it with premium and don't notice the power increase I get with e85, but can't really say on my mileage until I do a bit more driving.

I am on my fourth tank of E-85. More power for sure, more responsive so it's more fun to drive. I lost about 2 m.p.g. but since it's about 60 cents cheaper than regular, and there is a local station that carries it, it makes sense for me to run it.

Recommend a tier 3 89 or better gas. When BB did an 89 tune for me, he said the 87 I was running (Chevron) was terrible. Gave him a run with Shell, still bad. After tune he said the 89 was just marginal for power. Said he sees that a lot in Texas and LA. While waiting for the tune, switched to 89 and it did run better.

The Costco near me now runs a tier three gas with the detergents etc. Never before bought Costco gas but do now as their 93 is usually lower than what I can buy 89 at other places. They only offer 87/93.

Huh? You have an 89 tune but were running 87 and are surprised that you had poor performance?

FYI, most gasoline is nearly identical. The major differences come from the additives that some add for EPA requirements and "cleaning" detergents.

ran 87 from racetrack for 300 miles of interestate driving at 79 mph and got 20.2 on the dic. ran 91 from exxon for 300 miles and got 17.8. took all i could do to hit 18mpg with the 91 octane. not sure what changed but i'll go back to 87 and see how it runs.

I have just finished my second tank of premium 100% gas. And I have been driving it like I stole it. Truck seems to run a lot better. I don't know if the computer can tell any difference and adjust the vvt or anything. I suspect a lot of these trucks sit on the dealer lots with very little gas in the tank and it probably takes a while to clean this crap out. My truck came from Mexico and I think it ran like they put a few pints of tequila in it. Also come on you all sound like a bunch of soccer moms with all this mpg talk . HELLO . 4x4, crew cabs. 4 in lifts, 33 s. Grow a pair or buy an OBAMA smart car. :driving:
