tomseeley
I'm not a truck guy at all, despite owning my third GMC dmax 2500HD. I'm old fashioned. I'm used to reading the odometer and changing oil, filters, etc., every X thousand miles. These newfangled computer-driven jobbies fascinate me but I'm worried I'm not doing what I should. I've got a 2013 GMC Sierra 2500HD duramax. It runs like a Swiss watch. I've got 12,000 miles on it. I tow an RV occasionally. Am I really doing it right if I do NOT take it in for routine maintenance until I get a "change oil soon" message on the dashboard no matter how many miles I've logged? I'm concerned especially about this new diesel exhaust fluid stuff I have to keep track of. I know there's a dashboard message about that too, but like I said I'm nervous. Please help me protect myself from myself! Thanks, in advance. Tom
RyanbabZ71
Oil change and maintenance is cheap insurance. Do what you feel comfortable with. I know I do more than I probably need to but oh well
Btuggle88
I take mine every X amount of miles regardless of what the computer says, Ryan's right cheap insurance and better safe than sorry.

Prokopchuk_9
Stick to what you feel comfortable with...the only thing is GM's recommendation for fuel filter replacement, it's not enough IMO. I change fuel filter at every oil change, even if my filter life monitor is still at 65%...I change the oil every 7000-8000 Kms in my Duramax...I've sent out oil analysis at 10k and still checks out pretty damn good!! Just buy good fuel, run additive in every other tank, change fuel filter along with an oil change and don't let it idle too much with the DEF system in tact!! And she purr like a kitten for years to come!!
Prokopchuk_9
Clean fuel and some additive is the key to long injection pump life and injector life. (Especially the cp4 in the LML, good idea to run additive) Of course this is all just my opinion. But I'm meticulous about filters and preventative maintenance in general on anything I own.
