What would gas have to cost before you sell your truck?

I have owned a truck since I bought my first one in 1969. It seemed that I have always had a need for one. But I am getting to the pont in my life that I don't really need one now. But I bought another new one at the end of 09. Just in case I needed one and also couldn't pass up the price. And also I like driving a truck. I have had the 09 for over 4 years now and I have 2018 miles on it. Now as far as gas mileage my wife has a 2012 Traverse AWD and the truck gets better milage than the Traverse. And the Traverse is the vehicle we use the most. So the cost of gas for my truck doesn't bother me. If the price gets to the point that i can't afford it then I proably won't be driving anything.

My truck gets 18mpg back 'n fourth to work, around town driving, all the mid size SUV's I looked at, mostly a Honda Pilot and a Tahoe won't do any better than that. My wife has a Mazda 6 that gets 38 mpg hwy, if we need to save on gas I'll drive that more. I suppose if I had a truck that got mpg's in the low teens I'd be more concerned.

Mileage is more of a concern regarding truck usage. From may to November of 2013 I was driving at least 300 miles weekly and that really hurt my wallet. Now gas may be more expensive but I am driving a third or so less miles and I am way more comfortable.

Although its all relative too, because a side business helps pay for my fuel expenses. If I didn't work at all with my truck it would be hard to rationalize having it at this point in my life.

Uh, a Tahoe isn't a midsize, or something you want to loom at if gas is a concern. Trust me! Your truck does better than my 14 MPG. Worst gas mileage I have ever gotten in a vehicle, including my 69 Camaro with a built 383!

I didn't buy it for gas I bought it for room and its designed for capability. Even then, I was surprised at it

Truck has been paid off for years, and its not worth anything to anyone else anyways, so I definitely wouldn't sell it. Just like everyone else I would get a car that gets better fuel economy. No I don't NEED a truck but I like not having to depend on someone else when I want to go 4wheeling or tow the boat to the lake or hang around a bonfire lol

If I drive a lifted truck as a DD and get 13.5 MPG then that's what I wanted. Like Sarah said in another post, you might get many miles per gallon, but I get a lot more smiles per gallon

The whole economy will collapse before the price of gas would affect me, given how few miles per year I drive.

I would just drive the Challenger more since it averages 1 MPG better than the truck. :driving:

Doesn't matter to me. I use my truck for land work and it hardly is a daily driver.

However, natural gas is becoming a huge interest to me considering i can get it in Cheyenne for $1.50 GGE

But the kits are so expensive... we installed them on our work trucks... constant issues... they are indyCNG/ CNG course kits.... maybe others are better..... I wanted to like it but it's been a failure here....

I've had dad's Buick to drive since he passed away in July of 08, so I tend to run that for errands and daily driving. It's helped save cash and some wear and tear on the truck, but I'm about to send the Buick out to pasture and start driving the truck full time. I knew when I bought her that she was going to be thirsty and that's the price of comfort and power.

That's why I ended up keeping my little elentra. They offered me only 1200 and I could probably sell it for 2000. But why? I switch between the truck and that to work. Every other day. Or if I need to go into the city. I like having both even thought my family says I need to get rid of one.... f that

Nope, won't sell mine, love it too much plus I bought it primarily to take road trips so I don't use it much otherwise. I'm retired and I don't commute. One thing I've noticed here in San Diego: gas is well over $4 a gallon and still rising and it seems people are driving even more, not less.......I don't get it.

The biggest headache for me is the trips back to NH- round trip uses like $500 in gas not including any local driving when I'm back in NH. For comparison's sake one of those diesel VWs that can easily pull mid-40 MPG on the highway would be under $200 if not less since I used EPA figures and people seem to readily be able to beat those numbers. The near 800-mile range of those is impressive but their cost per mile offsets it some since diesel costs so much (never mind the additional upfront costs). I know I'd be miserable driving a car though so I'll just keep on getting trucks.

Actually my sister has a 2011 Jetta TDI and it's really comfortable and nice but like most cars the window is really high on the door so it makes it awkward to put your arm out the window plus driving a truck feels so much better lol

Sent while drinkin' a cold one...
