Hitch Adjustment

Looking for advise - had been towing a boat with 1500 series truck. Towing a 25' boat, total weight at just under 8000 lbs, with a tongue weight at just over 600 lbs. Using a 2" ball coupler. Now moved up to 2500HD truck and am finding a lot of "slop" in the tow hitch with the 2 1/2 " to 2" sleeve. Anyone have any ideas (other than welding - need the larger coupler occaisionally) on how to reduce the slop due to the sleeve?

Thanks.

Buy a 2 1/2" ball mount, one that is rated for your total trailer/ tongue weight, unless your using a wd hitch, then a new 2 1/2" shank.

There will still be some play in it to help prevent getting stuck permanently due to rust if left in all the time.

Congrats on the new tow beast!

Thanks - I did some poking around and that is the best way to go. I wasn't sure I could get a 2 1/2" ball mount with a 2" ball but sure enough you can.

BTW, the 2500 tows just great - only thing is that it likes to drink.
