2014+ Throttle Body Spacer

Recommended Posts

New member posted question about Throttle Body Spacer in his topic listing his truck mods. Thought I'd repost here for the engine sub-forum regulars...

AFE also offers a Throttle Body Spacer (link below), but I was wondering if adding one really helps anything? Any opinions?

I can't believe these damn things still generate enough revenue to actually keep marketing them...

If moving the throttle body further from the intake made a difference, they would be bolted to the air box. No offense OP... I just get irritated because people who don't know any better continue to throw money at stuff like this. Remember the "tornado"? Lol

Short answer.... Don't do it....More of a conversation piece as apposed to a performance modification.

What everyone else said. I bought into the hype when I was younger and purchased one for my 07. All it did was make a whistle noise at certain RPMs. Poor mans supercharger, but that's it. Total waste of money.

Maybe it would help if I supplied a little background on the throttle body spacer.

The throttle body spacer was originally designed for TBI (Throttle Body Injected) vehicles. This would raise the throttle body, which had the injector in it, to help give the fuel time to atomize with the intake air before traveling down the intake runners helping to level out the fuel amount to each cylinder vs. puddling on the bottom of the intake. This is the only case where the TB Spacer actually worked (The 1980's).

Please save your money and stop funding these performance parts travesties that would more than likely make the inventor of the sham wow chuckle or the Late Billy Mays roll over in his grave. Any body remember the "iTie" - a neck tie with a hidden pocket or the "Tool Bandit" which was a magnetic arm band for keeping track of your hand tools - you just stick them right to your arm? LOL

More like Honey Whiskey and Anything.

I like where this is going... a nice shot of the King Bee himself or when it warms up... 1 part Tennessee Honey and 3 parts Lemonade over ice w/wo a cherry. That does it... I'm taking a 3 day weekend this weekend.. now where's those request forms.

Just to clarify that this thread is still on topic. Either one of the above drinks will produce more horse power than a TB spacer and definitely best bang for the buck.

Combine the spacer with a Tornado and then you will really feel a difference! LOL! :bs:

Duhh, we all seen that movie... Isn't that how Marty and Doc got around the plutonium shortage in Back to the Future 17. If I'm not mistaken when Doc introduced the "tornado" to the same intake path already populated with the infamous TBspacer a wormhole opened up surprising the $hit out of Doc because he was sure there was only going to be a simple nuclear reaction when combining the two. And Scientists today still scoff at the thought of the TB tornado-spacer actually hurling us back in time.... Jokes on them!

ON MY SUPERCHARGED LE5, AS MUCH AS I WANTED TO INITIALLY RUN A TB SPACER FOR METH INJECTION FOR EASE OF INSTALLATION, I DECIDED AGAINST IT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CHEMICALS IN METH WOULD EAT UP THE KEVLAR COATING ON MY ROTOR PACKS, CAUSING FOR IMPROPER COMPRESSION IN MY BLOWER HOUSING, NOT GUNNA DO THAT. SO I ENDED UP USING A PHENOLIC SPACER, AND TAPPING A COUPLE HOLES ONTO MY IM THAT WAY THE METH WAS GOING STRAIGHT INTO THE INLET PORTS.

HOWEVER,

HAS ANYONE MANUFACTURED A INTAKE MANIFOLD, PLENUM SPACER FOR OUR TRUCKS YET?
