Stock control arms: Steel or aluminum?

Recommended Posts

So I've been researching this as my driver side upper ball joint is loose.  I have a 2014 crew cab Z71 Silverado.  The truck came with aluminum control arms and aluminum steering knuckles.  I went to get the replacement upper control arm with the integrated ball joint and the parts department gave me a stamped steel upper control arm.  I asked them about it and they said GM replaced the aluminum control arms with stamped steel.  Doing a VIN # search on gmpartsdirect.com confirms that he gave me the right part number.

2015 Denali cc short box 6.2l forged steel upper and lower. No vibration or driveline issues.

I wonder if there is a correlation between the drivetrain issues and the type of control arms being used.

It would be nice if people would list if they have issues, and what type of control arms they have. Just in case they're related.

question, when you say forged you mean cast or stamped welded?
