Anyone here quit chewing or attempted?

Chris

Recommended Posts

I am going to be quitting. I have only been chewing for about 5 years. I used pouches to quit smoking. A couple times I reverted to smoking, but the past few years it has been chewing only.

I am going to try to quit by my birthday. So I have til June 7th to taper down and attempt to break the physical habit of having something in my lip.

There isnt really a direct reason that im doing it. It has just became a bit of a hassle with class and the looks I get at Costco when I buy in bulk.

Anyone have any stories, tips, or things to avoid?

Hooch Mint helped me get through the quit! I've been quit for 6 yrs! but I keep a few cans of it for those "hard" times. I found it was the best tasting, best texture, and best "spitting factor" compared to the real stuff...

I chewed from 18-28 (smoked a few years before that). and quiting was THE HARDEST THING i've ever done, mentally and physically becuase nicotine really does reprogram the way your brain functions and how it seeks "pleasure". SO....the hardest times will be right after you quit. But just count the first hours of the first day as a success. Then count the first days of the first week a success. Then count the first weeks of the first month as a success.....and so on! I went COLD TURKEY and I think it is the only way to do it. Rob your body and brain of the nicotine and it'll kick your ass for it, but TOUGH through it...find alternatives...fake chew like i mentioned above, sunflower seeds, etc. and the longer you go without any nicotine, the easier it really will get.....i can be around people with it now and i'm not affected, even a little disgusted so keep with it and then reward yourself a year after you've quit with something for your truck or _____ with the money you have saved not buying Dip! Best of luck...

there are also some "QUIT CHEWING" forums where people talk about their quitiing and help each other, even chat rooms, which can help in the times you have troubles with...look into those also.

I need to do this as well, started at 15 and I'm 27 now. I've gradually started to cut down own my usage, down to one or two dips a day. I recommend the fake chew as well, guys at work said it really helped them quit because it fooled their brain into thinking they were still chewing.

I have been chewing since I was 19 now iam almost 50 (leaf beech-nut), have I tried to quit? not really because I like it, is it bad for you? maybe but what is not bad for you anymore.

I eat anything I want and not going to go around a eat leaves and vegetables because they say its good for you.

When I go to the dentist I have never told them I chewed just to see if they noticed something in my gums and every time they tell my gums look good.

I go through about a bag a day and will not chew in other peoples houses or around woman because of the spitting.

I've been chewing since I was 12 and I'm 51 now. I quit for three years using a drup like Chantix and it worked. I was using about a 2 cans a week when I quit. I fell off the wagon (after an extremely stressfull day) about two years ago and now I chew 3 times as much as I did before I quit. So I don't know if it was worth it now. I know its not good for me but I'm just happier using it. I know its stupid but when I quit using Chantix I didn't have the cravings but I just couldn't shake the depression that goes along with not having something to look forward to.

For me it is a need. I go through a can a day. On the way to let the dog out I put one in. Keep in mind I do use pouches to keep the mess down. I think the feeling of the pouch in my lip is going to be the hardest part for me

First time I quit sunflower seeds helped a lot with the wanting the feeling of something there. I also found myself holding my tongue down in the "pouch" in my lip. I've been back dipping a few years now though. Seriously need to cut back. Of the dippers I know I'm the only one that dips a can a day. Been considering the fake dip to help

I already have problems with depression and anxiety. That is one reason I put off quitting for this long. I didn't want to add to it

You have to throw them down, the best way is cold turkey imo. I was never into dip but smoked and quit for a few years and went to a tool concert and bummed a smoke and started back up for another 5 years and have now been smoke free since last august when my criminal state of Massachusetts decided to raise the price again to over 10 dollars per pack. I simply refuse to give my state anymore money then I have to, 6 dollars of taxes per pack is all the motivation I need.

My Grand Dad chewed that & can still remember the smell of Beech Nut & the strongest coffee on the planet brewing in the mornings. He passed away at 73 when I was 10 years old, but lived a damn hard life in all aspects. Was told in his younger days he drank hard whiskey for 15 years & just decided to quit & did. Same with smoking for roughly 10 years, just quit cold turkey & it was done. The Beech Nut was another story, could not or quite possibly just did not want to. He passed away at his cabin on the river of a heart attack on a duck hunting trip.

To clarify, not knocking anything, just had not thought about waking up at their house on Sunday mornings in years. I smoke & that is something I have to quit. Chantix can work, but they will not give it to you if you have a cdl. So cold turkey it will be...at some point.
