New Motor Trend in mailbox: Z/28 beats 911 Turbo S and GT-R at track

Only by a few tenths in lap time, and they KILL the Z/28 in 0-60, but that's quite a feat.

For those curious, Motor Trend tested the ZL1 0-60 at 3.8, and the Z/28 at 4.0, so its not far off there either.

Autoweek tested the 911 GT3 against the Z/28, and the GT3, the (currently best track focused 911 but better are coming), beat the Z/28

I have a feeling The Z06 is going to leave footprints on the backs of some 400+K cars

I watched MT's Johnny Lieberman put the GTR and Z/28 head to head, the GTR rapes the z28 in the 1320. On the track they tested at in Alabama with a pro driver, the z only bested the GTR by about a half second

One of the autoweek guys is a guest on this weeks autoblog podcasts and when they ask him if the Camaro would be a good car or have issues on public roads (too stiff, low, spartan, etc) he says definitely, its a very focused track car.

He wasn't knocking it, he praised it a lot.

It wasn't meant to be a daily driver

Last May in Indy al oppenhauser (camaro chief engineer) explained one of his rides in the car. He was like a kid in a candy store talking about it

His quote was "I seen god in turn x (forget which one) at VIR."

I know, but they were basically saying, its not really an around town car either, you catch a pothole on the way to the track and you'll break a vertebrae

That was a great article...was expecting the normal MT bashing.. it really is impressive for GM to make a Camaro (which is getting to be an older platform) run that well against some of the fastest and best performing street cars in world. Especially since it's a big, RWD, naturally aspirated v8.

I enjoyed that article surprised by the Buick coming in second to the BMW In the other article too over a vw and Benz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree.. Again , I was expecting the normal MT GM bashing statements from them. I've driven one of those CLA's and they were not impressive at all for a Benz.

MT in general isn't a GM bashing mag. It got that reputation from people so loyal to GM they never tried the competition. For a good 20 year span, GM made a LOT of steaming piles, and those guys put 100s of miles on EVERYTHING in its class. Cavalier and cobalt(besides SS) did not come close to anything it competed against, I remember MT trashing the regular cobakt, but saying the SS was such a wonderful driving car it made up for all the downfalls of the regular models. I remember my brother was set on getting a trailblazer or Malibu in mid 2000s, they test drove 3 Malibu's from different lots and all three had interior trim literally falling off, and a trailblazer didntblook like it was going to make it off the lot. When I bought my wife's corolla in 2008 there were two or three people trading in 1st and 2nd gen fwd Mailbus at the same time, because of reliability issue( yeah that was a bit odd, but I heard one of the guys talking about his). Remember the engine knock fiasco? They called it normal operation. The interior and fit and finish of my 94 C4 was a lot worse than my 89 BMW 3 series.

I agree with that, I'm definatley not loyal to any brand haha. what I meant by normal MT bashing was how they always talk about the interior materials and I'm suprised they didn't say anything about the horrible blind spot in the Camaro as they always have done.

Blind spot doesn't matter on a racetrack when every thing else is in the dust
