SSR Peformance Enhancements

Recommended Posts

Well it all depends on how much you want to spend. You could do heads and cam but Im not sure you would be to keene on the fact of ripping apart a brand new truck. You could do, headers, intake, power programmer, plugs and wires, under drive pulleys, stall converter, mabey even gears. And there is always my wonderful friend the supercharger

I wouldnt see any reason everything for the iron block 5.3 wouldnt work on the aluminum one.My cousin has a 03 Trailblazer EXT with this motor and he was told that the only difference is its made of aluminum. The only problem might be how much room is under the hood of the SSR which might limit you to what you can do.

OK then why can LPE take a all aluminum smallblock and throw 2 turbos on it and get up to 800 horsepower, and still be an excellent daily driver. And yes its expensive, yes its a C5R block but its all aluminum. And I've seen the heat they make from a video of one on the dyno, and there was no problem.

I think a Whipple or a KenneBell blower would work perfectly fine on an SSR.And if this cant hold a blower what is everybody going to do when GM throws this one in the Silverados and Sierra and everything else that uses a 5.3.

Aluminum blocks do not live well with supercharging or turbocharging.  Heat.

No, if anything, Aluminum is better at dissipating heat.  It's also lighter which is probably what they wanted in a more sport oriented truck (or whatever you want to call an SSR) vs. a more work oriented truck such as a Silverado.

It has more to do with detonation issues.  If you get the tuning right it isn't an issue.  However, if you're blowing it and not running enough fuel to compensate, you'll get a lot more detonation therefore resulting in lot's of pieces getting scrapped if it's let go for too long.
