Exhaust Systems Duramax

Recommended Posts

I'm not diesel man, but banks has had a great reputation for years and years based upon their superior products, so i wouldn't be afraid of their system.

My buddy put a Bullit or Bullet muffler on his Cummins and left the stock pipes.  It is a straight through stainless muffler, and it has helped his '02 Dodge out alot.  He claims the Turbo will spool up sooner and faster now that the system is freed up a little.  (I don't recall who makes it, but I know it comes in different lengths for different applications.  I can ask him about it if yu want)

Roofer, You and I may need to get together this spring.  I want to straight pipe my truck but want to hear one first.  I had straight pipes on my Z71 and loved them.  I do like my Dmax quiet and I did promise the wife not to redo my exhaust but....:)

I live in Stillwater and work in New Brighton.

That could possibly work out. It's not really all that loud in the cab with the windows shut. I have heard clips on the net of the Banks system and my straight pipe isn't quite as loud. I think a straight 4" system would be a tad louder though. I am thinking of maybe this spring getting it Y-ed off and having one out behind each wheel. Then I could hear it on my side of the truck.  :thumb:

I have the Bully Dog set up and it's awesome.  it's 4" all the way back into a 5" tip.  I like it a lot and I also have the duramaximizer with a K&n filtercharger and my egt's are very low.  towing 8000lbs up an 8-9% grade I never went over 930*F. Pics of my truck

a quick pic of the exhaust tip is on there too...check it out.

From what I have heard, the stainless systems are overkill, unless you live in an area where salts are put on the roads.  I live in CA, so an Aluminized one should be fine.  Apparently, this is the difference between the two kinds.  SS is much more expensive.  400 bucks should get you an aluminized system, 800 bucks should get you a ss system...Am I right here?

Okay I'm on the box.  Screw over paying for Banks for a mediocre product but a cool sticker you can put on the side of your truck.  That's like buying Caterpillar or Snap on just for the name.  We don't anymore they are no better that John Deere lately and Snap On is about level with Mac, Matco.  One guys name comes to mine, one diesel guru to be exact.  John Kennedy go to www.kennedydiesel.com he sells stuff that works and personally test and mods his own DMAX.  I'm one of those guys that appreciates a man's word and a hand shake versus some bulls*%t logo and high prices... But hey that's just me.

LOL, sounds like me and you have the same opinion and both Banks and BFG tires.

What's the saying?? "Great minds think alike"

If your still looking at different exhaust systems, try this page: www. bigexhaust.com.  Seem to have almost every system available for the Dmax at this point, except for John Kennedy's.  I've never done business with them so I can't give you any first hand feedback.
