Just installed 70 series Flowmaster on 5.3

Recommended Posts

Ok... First off, I did this because I'm undecided on my build so I haven't been able to commit on exhaust yet. I'm tired of driving a truck that sounds like a Prius so I made the decision to try a big ass 70 series Flowmaster 3"in 3"out. I only have 2 cats (bye bye cali cat) and this Flowmaster. No resonator, no flapper valve and no 3rd cat. I have a guy so this only cost me $200 for everything. WORTH EVERY PENNY!

First thoughts- love it!

Drone- almost non existent, looking forward to taking local users for a ride and letting them see for themselves.

Sound - quiet rumble at idle, nice deep growl on the skinny pedal. Very tame but you know it's there.

Any noticeable difference in power? I wi respond to that after I do some scanning with my tune software.

DOD sound- well... It's more of a flutter sound. Not necessarily a bad sound but just not something I'm use to in a V8 truck.

I actually turned DOD back on to stock settings and noticed that it comes on a lot more than it did from the factory and requires more throttle to get it to shut off. The only thing that tells me is that the stock exhaust is restrictive and it is breathing better now which freed up some load on the engine. I actually turned at a stop light with V4 on and pulled back up to 35mph speed limit without going into v8. Never did that before.

I will post videos tonight when I get off work.

Sorry for typos, my fat thumbs typed this out on my Iphone5

(((Hey... How do you guys get YouTube videos on here that show the first clip and not just a link... Please PM me the answer so this thread isn't littered more than normal.)))

Here is a Drive By

Here is an in-cab video from a Dig.

Ok.. this video is about 10 min long and is a mixture of city, hwy and suburban area driving as I try to produce drone. WARNING!!! Lots of unnecessary RedBilly Commentary. Probably Not Appropriate for City Folks!

That's crazy on the AFM. Mine is touchy, especially on the highway. Seems like I barely touch the pedal and it's out of v4

Ok... I'm slowly getting Videos uploaded to YouTube. I suggest you use your ear phones so that you can hear it good. Everything I heard as far as drone is very slight, I honestly cant say that it has any drone yet, let me get a couple more days driving it.

Second Video Added...

This video is an in-cab from a Dig. Here you will start to hear some of my RedBilly commentary, and its not purdy. What can I say... I'm an Okie, we may not win any shows, but we get the job done, lol.

Pretty strong wheel spin from a dig with those 3:08 gears. The shifting is definitely better. My question is how did you log a best MPG of 35? Were you going downhill in neutral for a mile? My best on a normal highway here was a best of 24 mpg.

That was logged during my trip to NC from here in OK. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary as far as driving but 40 hwy does hit a few small mountains along the way. My 50 mile is 27 and my 400 mile is 22 or 23 and some change.

As far as wheel spin, it has tamed down a lot since I swapped my 18" wheels yesterday for 22's with 305-40's

Ok... In this video, I tried to produce the drone that every Flowmaster is suppose to have. I removed the extra cat, I have no resonator or flapper valve and its 3" exhaust through a 70 series flowmaster. If you hear this drone, tell me what frame its in. LOL

This video is 10 min long and is full of useless commentary, so due to my strong 1/2 hillbilly, 1/4 redneck and 1/4 inbred bloodline... this is not recommended for city folk! It may make your ears bleed! (This video was added to first post)

Sounds really nice. In the future can you shoot a pic of your 3rd cat removal, I'm wanting to do the same, just curious how "your guy" did it. Oh and lets see them 22's :-)

That sounds nice. Sounds like a truck. Thanks for taking the time to make the driving video. Question, what is DOD?

As an aside, thats some nice country there. Here's in NH we're all hills, snow, and trees!

DOD is "Displacement On Demand" also known as AFM or V4 Mode.

"My Guy" simply stepped up a piece of 3.5" or whatever it is to that 4"-ish piece.

I will try to get some pics of both the cat removal and my new shoes today.

As soon as sun came up, I pulled over and snapped a couple pics.

These wheels really show the brakes so I'm gonna have to break it back down and paint the calipers this weekend.

Looks great! Agree it would look better with the calipers painted.
