Sliding Rear Window Recall

Recommended Posts

So my service writer told me the other day that the sliding rear window on all 14 Silverados has been recalled. He said it calls for the regulator to be replaced.. It looks like that is behind the seat next to the amp right? I really hate the idea of them pulling my rear seat and interior pieces out of the truck, especially because it seems everytime I bring my vehicles to the dealer, they are really rough and uncaring.. Does anyone know exactly what is wrong with them? Just curious why they all need to be replaced. I am due to bring my truck in for an oil change, fire recall, and now this tomorrow morning..

Had mine fixed already. Service mgr told me the regulator/pulley/cable breaks and jams so that you cannot close the window securely. They acquired parts to fix all units in stock and customer units as soon as contacted. This issue caused the windows to be put on manufacturing hold for a while so it must be serious. Yes, it does require them to take out the back seat - the regulator assembly is in the wall behind the rear seat. The TSB expires on a unit by unit basis until the warranty runs out. I hated to have them take my truck apart, but Service Mgr convinced me to do it before it failed. Good luck. Hope this helps.

It is not a big deal. All they are doing is replacing the regulator with a new one and taking the seat back off to do it. Really pretty simple to do..

My dealer told me about it when i went in for something else. They are not sending out notifications from GM. My dealer was going to call customers on their own. Call your dealer service dept to inquire.

To the poster... that was scare as well.. The dealer tearing apart the truck. Plus I rarely ever use the rear window to start with. Anyway, I went to the dealer last week for my first service, and let them replace the regulator. Sure enough they scratched up the interior plastic it in a few places. And of course didn't even bother cleaning the rear window, it had grease and junk all over it when they were done. Its amazing how sloppy these guys are, and the fact that I pretty much expect something like this to happen

Tell me about it. The last time they changed my oil, which was the first time, they poured oil all over the engine compartment, and left oily hand prints all over the hood, fender, and door when they opened it. I was pissed. They don't care about these vehicles and I know it. I hardly use the back window myself, thats why I am seriously contemplating on leaving it until/if it breaks. Personally, I don't even know if I want to take it in for the fire recall. I would normally do it, but I really don't want these guys in my truck the way they treat things.. The second time I went I had just had my windows tinted. I told the guy to tell the worker not to roll them down. He said he was going to go put a big sign on the window himself. I followed him out there and he did. When they returned the truck sure enough the windows were down, and the note was still on the window when I rolled it up! Luckily it didn't get stuck in there! I live in Los Angeles, and I wonder if that fire recall even matters to someone where the weather doesn't normally drop below 60. One thing is for certain. If I do let them do it I will make it very clear up front that even a scratch will result in them replacing the piece. If I can repair things in the truck and not scratch things, certainly they can.

Well my truck was built in September, and I went in today to have the back window fixed and they told me mine was already done at the factory.. I must have got one of the first ones completed with the new stuff.
