2014+ Engine & Transmission Tuning

Recommended Posts

I've been looking for information in reference to installing a tuner chip in my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab 4X4 5.3L. Instructions state to install the chip to the MAF/ IAT SIGNAL WIRE. I'm have issues locating the literature that tells me where the signal wire is located. I know it's on the MAF / IAT located on the Air Intake filter box. Could someone please assist me with this. The wiring diagram to the MAF / IAT. Thank you.

These "chips" are a scam and won't do anything to improve performance. Don't bother installing it. All they do is try to trick the ECM into thinking the air is cooler than it really is. The ECM will eventually realize the temp signal is wrong and lean back out the fuel mix and maybe even set a code. The only way to improve a modern vehicle performance is through a real tune. Send it back if you can.

I wouldn't mess with it unless you are really mechanic savvy. Don't know that it will do what you are wanting, but I always let the professionals install.

There is nothing to mess with- these "chips" are nothing more than a resistor. You can get like 5 for $1 from Radio Shack. They are absolutely worthless, nothing but snake oil.

I pulled 30hp over stock with a custom street tune from my local dyno shop. Minimal changes and the outcome was day and night. Trucks a whole new animal. Changed up the shift point and tc lockups and that made the biggest difference

I've been in touch with Justin at Blackbear.. Just waiting for the TCM tune to be available before I pull the pin. He did my last two trucks as well.

That's odd that he's not tuning TCM yet. I was certain that the the TCM was same with the addition of a few parameters in the OS. Oh well, BB is a reputable tuning source and probably worth the wait. You never know what you are going to get from these flyby night tuners that keep popping up on every street corner, calling themselves tuners just because they have a Dyno and a copy of Efi Live.

After getting a full tank of E85 while traveling I was impressed by the extra kick that it provided. However now that I have returned home and its time to refuel I have come to realize locating E85 can be a difficult proposition on a regular basis. At any rate its time to get a tune in order to have the benefit with regualr fill ups. For all those wanting to chime in about voiding your warranty save your keys strokes.

There are several threads asking about tuning but I wanted to have a thread where folks who have tuned a 2014 truck can comment on their trouble free miles. So post which tune you have how many miles you have logged since the improvement.

Cheers! :driving:

Just to throw this out there. I am not one of these you will void your warranty guys, I have tuned everything I have owned and have a tune written waiting to install on this one when the time comes. I was talking to the service guy at the dealership yesterday about my gear install, not even discussing re-calibration or tuning, and he told me whatever I do do not put a tuner on this truck to correct for the gears. He said he has a new 6.2 in the shop right now that had an engine knock. GM made him pull the cal file and send in for evaluation. The truck was tuned and he had to cancel the guys warranty. Stuck with a 55K truck with a busted engine and a 13K bill if he wants them to repair it. The guy initially denied it but he eventually admitted that he had tuned it. This is just hearsay so take it for what it is. I still plan on tuning mine but it will be a little later down the road once more reports come in on how they hold up. He informed me that DSI, the company that does their lift installs, can re-calibrate it and it will still be covered under GM warranty.

The line about the lift company calibration being ok is BS. GM won't know them from anyone else. The lift will only be covered by the selling dealer, anywhere else will be a crapshoot.

The dealerships send the trucks to the company, they do the lift and calibration updates. It is registered with GM and the vehicle VIN. They have been doing this for years. If you buy a new one off of the lot lifted all of this should be completed. You are covered under full power train warranty and if it is denied by GM because the lift messed up the steering rack or something then DSI picks up the bill and pays the dealer directly.

Sorry to get off topic Mutau95

Thirty five years ago I was counter guy at NAPA, they had flyer for people to sign to keep the auto makers from making where you could only buy parts or get work done at the dealer. Looks like were close. At lease if you want to keep your warranty. A hand held tuner will not hurt anything. I had truck with 200,000 miles on with tunes. That's the way it goes I guess.
