Factory undercoating is peeling off!!

Recommended Posts

Well I receive news that I am for sure to have my truck back by Friday. The dealership is supposed to call me before they drop the bed and cab back down on the frame so I can come get some pictures

That is crazy. Did they lift the cab as well? I wonder who is going to eat the cost of that job.

GM..... factory representative approved after visiting the dealership. On top of that they put me in a brand new (6 miles) 2014 Silverado from enterprise rent-a-car for one week and for the second week they put me in a new equinox. The only area of the frame that they don't think they will be able to effect repair is on the inside. They have no way of grinding it down to metal and perform the surface preparation needed. Yes they're going to lift the cab up. the entire frame from nose to tail was covered in rust and the coating was excessively thin especially in the back where the rear wheel wells are.

Nothing like buying a brand new truck to have it completely taken apart... I'm sorry dude.

Well, let me tell you I'm very aware how hard of a job this is. I stripped my frame on my 2008 with a heat gun and scraper then sanded it down and painted it myself. IT took about 5 hours a day for 7 days or so.

What they should have done is galvanize them then paint them from the factory, would be way less warranty claims..

No kidding. I would gladly pay what it costs to get a galvanized frame. Most people probably wouldn't though. I'm sure it would add $1,000 to the price of the truck.

Hell I'll take the wax coating they were using 10 years ago. My dad's 2004 suburban looks nearly flawless. My 2014 Silverado looks way worse.

The new batch of 14 frames look amazing... Very thick coating

They must have figured out that it is easier to coat the frame BEFORE they have a box, cab, and running gear on them???

I am glad to hear they are at least doing something, even if they are still not doing it right, IMO!

You mean "Hung out to rust" ?

haha yes touché. All I know is this thing will be paid off in 5 years and my extended warranty runs out in 6 years. At 6 years and 1 day, I will be unloading this truck for sure. I'll see what's available on the market at that time.
