Foggy windows

Recommended Posts

Has anyone noticed that the windows seem to fog easily in the new Silverados? I'm not one to really perspire...but it seems I've needed to kick on the defroster a few times now because I get a fog close to my mirrors on the drivers and passengers window. A few mins on defrost clears it righ up but...why is it happening? I keep it on recirculate, and have tried AC on and off but doesn't seem to help. Having heat on just the feet seems to make it go away too. I dont smell any antifreeze smell but know that some have had heater core issues. Its has been cold here lately so perhaps thats all it is. For those of you who ahd bad heater cores...how did you know, just a stong antifreeze smell when the heat is on?

Holy hell, do you guys not know how fog on windows work. Thats why your truck has defrost as std equipment.

From my readings on this forum, it appears the 2014 model year fresh air/recirculation door does not close all the way in recirculation mode and stays open about 10%. Sounds like GM is working on an HVAC ECM update to change this so door closes even further. With the door not closing 100%, you could be introducing cold humid air into the cabin. This would result in requiring a greater use of the A/C to remove the humid air.

The other issue for the 2014 model year from my readings is a leaking heater core. If you are experiencing the antifreeze smell in the cab and your windows are fogging up then you could have a leaking heater core. You'd be able to detect the antifreeze smell on your hand if you wiped it against the inside of the windshield and your fingers would have a slight oily feel to them.

You might want to read up on how windows fog up. Your windows fog up when the recirc button is on. Why doesn't the recirc light stay on when the defrosters are on?

Guess after spending the past 10 years in hot humid Florida, I found it best to use recirculate mode and A/C mode to reduce air moisture in the cabin.

Notice the part that talks about circulation of outside air into the cabin.
