WOW..so i turned on the heater this morning and…..

Recommended Posts

the whole truck was vibrating! It literally felt like I was in the cockpit of a small aircraft about to takeoff (i was an a/p mechanic so I'm familiar), I was laughing and laughing. It was sooo loud. It was definitely the fan because it was relative to the speed I was turning it up or down to. I shut the truck off and turned it back on, nothing changed. I was driving for about 45 minutes and it never changed. Keeping the heat fan at about 25% was the only way to keep semi warm and quiet, -5 this morning. But its been colder than that up here without issue. Anyone else had this?

I had the same problem with mine yesterday except my blower didn't come on at all in the morning. After driving it to work the ice around the blower melted enough that it started working but vibrated like crazy. Mine is at the dealer now, they said there is a TSB to install a aftermarket shield to keep ice and snow out of air box intake and they are also going to replace my blower assembly.

My guess would be ice as well. The blower can get moisture on it from outside or build up from condensation on the inside. Their is a drain for the area under the blower but of course if it's to cold it will freeze before draining. Some GM vehicles had problems with building up moisture during warmer months causing a mildew smell. They came up with a fix to use a special foam to clean out the blower pan and installed a relay that would keep the blower on for some time after the vehicle was turned off. This was really bad on vehicles that did not have the in cab filters.

Snow and Ice has gotten down in there, there's a service bulletin on this so your dealer will be able to pull it up. They install a screen to keep the ice out (Why the hell was this not there in the first place?) and replace the blower motor.. Your passenger side air filter may also need replaced if it got soaked.

So the dealer is installing the "snow screen" as soon as it arrives. Its just a bit funny that I bought this truck in late December in NH and they didn't think of putting this on ALL their vehicles up here….
