Dissatisfied with GMC Long going ordeal

Recommended Posts

Well to start my story, I currently have a 2008 GMC Sierra Denali. In June of 2013 both box sides started to bubble the paint and rust with only 37,000 miles. The rear painted bumper also started bubbling. After going back and forth with the dealer for 3 months GM decided to repair the box sides if I would pay to repair the rear bumper. After getting the dealers estimate I got it repaired at the best auto body shop in town for $300 les than quoted by the dealer. After 2 weeks the dealer had the box sides replaced and I came to pick it up. When I pulled up before getting out of my car I could see a scratch near the tail light. Upon further inspection I noticed a scratch on the bed rail I'm guessing from when they re installed my tonneau cover. There was also a lot of dust and a few fish eyes on both box sides. My nearly pristine, garage kept, washed every time I drove it, truck had a "maco" quality box. To say I was slightly upset was an under statement. I did keep my composure and the sales man whom I had been dealing with offered to give me a "good" deal if I wanted to trade for a new truck instead of repainting the entire box. He offered me roughly $2000 less than clean retail towards the supplier discount I already qualified for. I ordered a new 2014 Sierra Denali in mid October which of course was on constraint. The first weekend in November I stopped in to check on my order status and realized we had ordered a short box instead of a standard box for my new 5th wheel. We changed the order to a standard box @ Nov. 10th. When I showed up this morning I found out that GM did not accept the order until @ Dec 10th so they could get a $1500 price hike on the MSRP. The dealer also decided that my trade is worth $4000 less($5500 difference than original quote). They say they are being more than far. I told them they can call me tomorrow if they get anything resolved with the price. I drove to the local Chevy dealer and had them offer me $3000 more for my truck on a truck that they would have to do a dealer trade on. Supplier price vs supplier price plus Chevy is offering $1000 more in rebates currently. I just got off the phone with GM cust. service and someone is supposed to call me back within 24-48 hrs. I do have to say that CS was very professional and friendly. I'll keep everyone updated.

I'm trading because the dealer didn't want to repaint the box again because of a sub par paint job and they offer me a "good" deal on a new truck. The dealer body shop apparently has no QC on their work. Even my salesman was unhappy with the results. When I came to pick it up the fresh paint was scratched and had a lot of dust and some fish eyes in it. They did buff the scratches out but to remove the dust and fish eyes it would need to be repainted. Unfortunately the dealership is acting like the body shop and sales are separate entities and not wanting to make up for the body shops shortcomings.

Fish eye is caused by improper prep and or oil contamination on the surface when the paint is applied. It causes the paint to repel away from where the oil is at and in turn causes a circular eye to form in the paint. Only way to correct it is to sand the entire area back down to a flat surface and re-spray the panel.

Most cruel joke I saw ever played, I was in a body shop and a car was in the paint booth getting ready to be sprayed. Prankster went in with can of WD-40 and sprayed it in the air. Painted didn't notice and thought car was still ready. Ruined the entire paint job on the car. Cost the prankster his job as the shop mgr was not too happy to have to eat all of the labor and materials to strip the car back down to metal to get it ready to be sprayed again.

As of tonight GM is saying they aren't going to honor price when ordered because they didn't accept it for over a month... Dealer said regional rep offered $1000 in gm accessories but they don't have anything that I want that isn't 50% over priced. I told them about local chevy dealer offering me $3000 more on trade and they said that they will call me in the morning to see what they can do. They also told me that they already have a dealer trying to buy my truck for MSRP so they will be losing money to sell my ordered truck to me. Just loving this BS.....

Does sound like a bunch of BS. I can't stand when someone gives you a price on something then changes it when it comes time to pay. If the dealer won't keep their agreement I would make them repaint the entire box at their expense then go to another dealer to trade it in. I have gotten to the point I hate dealing with dealerships so much that when I want a new truck I will email several dealerships on what I want and what I am willing to pay. The first one to honor it wins. Pending a test drive of course. I buy a new truck just about every year and have heard all kind of lies over the years. My current truck I actually got 3 hours away in another state because no other dealership would accept my offer. Especially when you tell dealers you are also looking at some of their competitors they tend to give better prices.

Or you could just bend over, hehe.Well after the run around you have gotten. I must agree with have them repaint the box or have another body shop repaint it and dealer pay for it. Once you get the bed like you want it go trade at Chevy dealer.

When I was approached with a "buyback" scenario , straightup trade-in was best option without dealing with regional rep or GM Customer Service. I was 3 grand ahead , and the dealer that took in that trade cleared over 3 grand in profit. When someone starts their "poor-mouth act" , its time to shop elsewhere.

when I bought my current truck it involved a 2 vehicle trade. one was my 2010 Sierra and the other our pristine 2008 Corvette with only 10,000 miles on it. Truck I knew I would eat it as the rebates on the 2013 trucks made buying new an advantage over a used 2010. Dealer gave me the "oh it will be hard to sell your Vette in winter and they just aren't worth as much now that the new ones are out". Gave me $30k on my Vette, put it up for sale on their lot for $42k (you could buy a brand new 2013 Vette as loaded as mine with the current rebates for $48ish) and sold it for around $38k.

Hate that crap, only reason dealers do that is they make a ton of profit on the trades ($8k+ in my case) and only make around $1500 on a new vehicle with the hold back.

Not as bad though if you figure in the taxes that you saved for the trade value. 30k tradein value would be worth about 2500 bucks here in the high sales tax state of TN. So you would have only lost 5500 if you look at it that way. Could you have sold it for $32,500.00 yourself easily?

I traded in my 09 truck and got what I thought was a decent amount of trade in value at $24,300.00 they have it on their website in their used car department (saw it today) at $29,466.00 Seriously doubt that it will bring anything close to that when it does resale. I am pretty sure that I could NOT have sold it myself for anywhere near 26k. Only had 29 in it anyway and drove it 3 yrs and 63k miles. Loving this new K2 one sweet ride a BIG improvement from my 09

In Arkansas if you sell a vehicle to an individual you still deduct the amount you sold it for from the price of the new one.

Example would be you sell your vehicle for 20,00 and buy a new one at 35,000 you would only have to pay sales tax on 15,000 instead of the full price. Same applies if you trade it in at dealer.

We have all kind of state taxes. Take a used vehicle it will get taxed every time it is sold until the sale price falls below 4500 dollars are maybe it is 4000 can't remember. State sales tax money over and over again. I think that is wrong cause sales tax was paid when it was purchased new.

Here comes the next shafting state of Arkansas puts on new vehicle purchase. You buy a vehicle has sticker price of 30,000 manufacturer has 2,500 in rebates and dealer knocks off another 2,500. So you get the vehicle at 25,000, but wait there's more you get to pay sales tax on 27,500. How can that be you ask because they charge you tax on the rebates. Now you explain how any private company could get away with charging taxes on about that was higher than purchase price? That's right only the government could get away with some crooked mess like that.

Ok I will get off my rant. It just upsets me to know you are getting shafted and there is nothing you can do about it.
