L86 6.2L V8 - Specs and Info

I thought I would create a thread dedicated to the new 6.2 that are in the new Silverados/Sierras. This way all the new info or anything that may come out can be posted in here. Also, some questions and help in here can be consolidated.

 

Here are the specs of the engine, from GM:

Horsepower (hp / kW @ rpm): 420 / 313 @ 5600 (SAE certified)

Torque (lb-ft / Nm @ rpm): 460 / 623 @ 4100 (SAE certified)

Recommended fuel: regular unleaded

Maximum engine speed (rpm): 6000

Emissions controls: close-coupled catalytic converter, Quick Sync 58X ignition, returnless fuel rail, fast-response O² sensor

Right, but above in the specs is listed as regular.

my dealer just gave me some info and power numbers for running e85. as far as I know the L86 doesn't take e85. Unless they change something down the road, ill never put e85 in. unless the dealer signs a waiver.

That is an outdated marketing info sheet. Several people already have this engine. Premium recommended and no E85.

From the OM:

If the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine

(VIN Code J), use premium

unleaded gasoline with a posted

octane rating of 91 or higher.

Regular unleaded gasoline rated at

87 octane or higher can be used,

but acceleration could be reduced,

and an audible knocking noise may

be heard. If the octane is less than

87, a heavy knocking noise may be

heard. Use 87 octane rated gasoline

or higher as soon as possible.

Otherwise, the engine could be

damaged. If heavy knocking is

heard when using a higher octane

rated gasoline, the engine needs

service.

Wonder if the horsepower and torque will be increased in the 2017 L86 engine. I noticed that Ford will be offering a 3.5L Ecoboost producing 450 horsepower in certain F-150 models such as Raptor and King Ranch. Can't have Ford beating GM Twins in the truck power game! Maybe GM will hang a twin turbo on the 6.2L L86? Now that would be one bad dude, lol !

Same since 2014 intro. Lots of upside potental though with this engine. Corvette is getting 650 hp and 650 ft lb.'s

Out of supercharged version. But, being I have. 98 mph limiter in my truck guess more wouldn't do me much good, ...
