issue 4WD Issues

On two occasions now while taking the truck out of 4WD the power seats starts to close in on me and the gas and break pedals start to move. Dealership today couldn't replicate it and I have been searching and found nothing. Am I alone on this one?

How many times have you tried it? I see you had 2 different times that happened. Sounds like a intermediate problem. I would think a faulty switch. Try to make it happen again and video it! That way you have proof its Doin it.

Tried it 3 times so far. Was out of state and finally needed to use it in PA. Haven't had a need for it in NC. The third time the truck just shut off. I will try and replicate while videoing. Thanks for the tip.

Sounds like a software issue, I have not seen anything on this but my guess is you unfortunately have some perfect combination of options on your truck along with on occasion happen to put your vehicle in the perfect situation for a "glitch" to happen.

 

There have been other similar issues on other models over the years. The trailblazers had a problem if you used a window switch along with the sunroof at the same time it would freak out the power mirrors. It was a logic lock situation that caused the probelm. GM provided a software update that eliminated the issue.

 

All of the various modules "talk" to one another over a high speed data buss. You have to visualize it sort of like an old fashioned telegraph system. Basically all of the modules are "listening" on the line all the time. They also periodically "check in" to tell the other modules they are still on the network. The messages sent over the network are "addressed" to other particular modules to get them to perform a particular function. If somewhere along the line the software had an issue where a particular message was "intercepted" or accessed by the wrong module all sorts of unexpected things can happen.

 

It may take some work to duplicate but give the dealer as much info as you can about what you were doing how long the truck was running the weather conditions etc. Anything you can tell them to help duplicate the issue will be beneficial. Don't be surprised if they cant duplicate it on the 1,2 or 10th try. Intermittent issues suck to diagnose give them as much info as you can. The fix will probably turn out to be quite simple. You may also ask them to make sure your tuck has the latest software in all of the modules. Simple for them to do/verify and pay fix the problem.

I think we are accidentally hitting the seat preset buttons when engaging 4wd. I am really surprised they don't lock out while driving. The pedals could potentially be out of reach when driving and my wife hits one of them and I am 9 inches taller than her.

I've had the same problem, but with a little twist. After starting my 2014 Sierra, it won't shift out of four wheel drive when in automatic. The display screen displays a message saying Service 4 wheel drive. The switch stays lit in the automatic position, but will not light up or change when switched to two wheel drive. Occasionally while trying to fix this problem and turning this switch to two wheel drive it will cause my power seats to move forward and upright on their own (like one of those horror movies, where the vehicle is possessed and crushes the driver against the steering wheel...LOL).

 

When I took it to the dealers, they could not replicate the problem. It is intermittent, but I won't drive while stuck in four wheel drive, except for short distances. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

I am pretty sure the memory buttons will not change seating/pedal positions once the truck is in gear and moving.

The memory seats should not move unless the truck is in Park.

The truck was in park while I was trying to switch the vehicle out of four wheel drive. The switch moving from automatic to two wheel drive would not engage, and the truck stayed engaged in four wheel drive. But also at the same time I tried to switch drives and moved the switch to two wheel drive the seat started to move on its own (straightening up on its own and going as far forward as it could go). This happened a few times when turning the switch, so it was not an accidental pushing of the seat buttons or memory buttons, as none were touched.

I have had 3 experiences with the 4wd transfer case problems on my "new 2014" Silverado (less than 5K miles).

 

First, it did the shift to 4wd but seemed to be in 4 wd low, as engine revs to 3500 rpm only made 45 mph... dealer reprogramed and it was OK... until driving it into town and parking it while shopping (OAT was -19f).. when it cranked but refused to start..... I pulled up OnStar and ask for help.. they remote diagnosed "service 4wd" and heaven knows what else.... they were going to get me emergency roadside service, but ask me to try starting the vehicle again.. to my surprise it did start, but ran on what sounded like 3 cylinders... the drivers display said "engine under limited power".. as I was one mile away from my servicing dealer, I limped it into his lot, (a Sunday evening) and called my wife to come pick me up in her Ford...

 

Monday morning Service had my truck fixed (a replaced relay, they said, and yes, it did cause the fail to start problem...)...

 

All fine until two weeks latter.. shifted into 4wd again (had been set on "Auto" while we were in town again shopping.... took it to the dealer and he verified that Chevy has a known but as of yet not fixed software issue with the 4wd shifting in cold temperatures... "cold temperatures !" ......... and they are working on a fix..... more to follow,,,,

 

I cant understand what is so hard about keeping a 4wd shift system that worked in the past... In /out/ auto... go back to 1996... that system worked......

 

I have already experienced more warranty issues under 5000 miles on this truck than I have had with my last four Chevy trucks in their lifetime.........In this north country it is NOT acceptable to have a critical vehicle system that does not work......

 

What is the story Chevy????? (careful here, your next truck sale to me depends on the answer.. )

No, you are not alone on this, it has happened numerous times to me. But as others have stated, it's because you're hitting the buttons for the seats at the same time. Took me awhile to figure it out, but I'm fairly confident that is what's happening for you.

Just had my truck at the dealer today turns out I was unknowingly hitting the seat 1 or 2 button with my hand just below my pinky. this is a bad design and the software should be updated to lock these buttons out while the truck is underway. When you twist the controls clock wise your hand move right at the seat buttons they are very soft and you can push them and not even know it. Be careful this can be dangerous. The first time it happed to me I almost wrecked the truck in the snow. Hope this helped.

If you are in gear those buttons are locked out. They only work if you are in park.
