Diary of my Silverado's problems.

Recommended Posts

Truck is still at dealership service manager called today at 3 pm and said it is released for me to come get they can find nothing wrong with it. Ask for GM and he was not available than called customer service agent 4 times and was dropped into voice mail each time. I just don't know what to do. Chest hurts from worrying about and sleep has been hard to come by. Looks like I have been deafeted by the big guy. I am very sad over this and wish somebody at GM would see things from my perspective

Look the paint repair over good. If they did a good job on it I'd take it. If the starter acts up again they will take care of it. If they would have had to use filler on it or cut out a bed side or something like that I would be freaked out too. A scratch repainted properly would not be enough for me to worry about.

So I will go tomorrow and see if the dealership and General Motors have any intentions of helping me out with this issue. You know the survey they send out after buying a new car that says if for any reason you can not mark exceptional customer service to all questions please inform us so we can make things right?

Maybe I should try this from a different approach...

Is there a Chevrolet dealership out there that is interested in a 2014 Silverado for trade?

The last time I saw the truck it had 49 miles on it but that was on 1/29/2014.

You can have some free publicity for doing the right thing and taking this truck in trade for a new one.

Customers credit score is above 750 and he will be loyal to you on all his next vehicle purchases as long as they don't come with repainted doors and starts when needed. He is eligible for both the supplier and employee discount (which ever works out best). He used to have $2,000.00 in GM CARD earnings but that was used up when he purchased his last truck...

This is all starting to sound more and more fishy. I'll believe it when I see pictures of the scratch (I know if I had something like this I would have pictures of it before I took it to the dealer) and see pictures of the work orders for the bad starter.

Make a big sign on a 4X8 pc of plywood with dealer name and something about don't buy a car here with "no customer service" on it. Drive back and forth in front of the place on a Saturday. Took less than 1/2 hour for them to come out and finally agree to fix the things that they said were not there before. They know that 1 or 2 customer losses translates to big bucks down the road for them. A bit extreme but last resort all's fair in love and dealer BS.

From GM Techlink publication...

John Chapman:

We have had several 2014 silverado’s with starter problems , The vehicle’s will not crank in cold weather ,Battery voltage is 12.1 volts at the terminals and at the starter when cranking… allowing the vehicle to warm up in the shop will allow for proper starting, we have expericenced the positive cable at the starter being too loose , any input would be greatful…

  • Ed.:

We are aware of a no crank condition that can occur in cold weather (below 32 degrees) climates. After performing standard diagnosis and verifying power and crank voltages, please contact the Technical Assistance Center for further information. We are studying this issue and TAC has the latest repair information.

I wish this was just a fish story... The company I work for after 19 years decided I made to much money and eliminated my position. They were kind enough to give me another job making 30% less. That is the reason my Camaro has been for sale since October. This was a desperation move at this point trading both cars for one. This represented a large monthly savings out of our monthly budget between car payments and insurance savings. Hope this helps you understand my position and another reason I am so upset over the situation. My wife decided she would like a truck since out of all the vehicles over the years it is our trucks that seem to hold good trade or resale value.

I can't believe this has happened to me (us) at this point. I know others have mentioned that it's not the end of the world (put your big boy pants on etc...) We have had vehicles before that were damaged also, but that while were driving and responsible for them. We had one of the first GEO Storms and my wife was broadsided when a driver ran a red light. The storm had 3,000' miles on it. I know things happen but this just is not right.

Positive information to report as of 11:30 a.m. this morning...

GM regional customer service has advised they are raising this issue to the next level.

I have been told they fully understand my position and support my decision not to take this vehicle at this point.

I don't want to jeopardize any progress made thus far so I will again only say that I have 100% confidence that both General Motors and the Dealership will continue there efforts to make sure I am 100% satisfied with my (our) new Silverado purchase.

Have been asked to hold tight until Tuesday 2/11/2014 to allow General Motors time to investigate the situation further.
