Diary of my Silverado's problems.

Recommended Posts

Take your wife down to the dealership now & go get your old vehicles back. Give them theirs & start over. I would not accept this deal as is.

If I read correctly, the dealer already sold his trade in to someone else a few days after he traded. Complicates things a little.. Hope they REALLY take care of you...

Let me ask you this: When you are aware of all these issues, why are you lining up to buy these overpriced and potentially defective trucks? Do you honestly hope that yours is somehow going to be perfect? There is no excuse for any modern new vehicle not to start, even the cheapest car out there.

Even though I considered getting a new truck, I am in no hurry to get one made by GM right now. At least not a 1/2 ton.

Im a little confused on the time line, at the dealer where I buy my cars and trucks they have posted a three day buy back. The scratch is his deal if he took it unfixed your at their mercy. I don't know if they do buy back on that. If it was her car and miss behaved in three days yup its theirs give me another one. If they cant take care of the known recalls before she gets it goes back. Ifs its me driving Ill deal a little, wife different.

These trucks are not widespread defective...and even if they were, how is everybody supposed to know that they are defective?

Mine was perfect. The dealer messed up.

So you would take the truck as is at this point? (painted door and only the service managers word that the truck seems fine and they can't repeat the starting issue even though it has happened twice in the first three times we needed the vehicle to start)

So I am to tell my wife just drive the truck and see what happens, don't worry about the starting issue when alone in the parking lot at your work?

I appreciate your painting of the world as we know it but I must ask has the particular situation ever happened to you?

Sorry about spell check "I had no idea we needed to be so intellectual on here"

I wasn't trying to offend you. I wasn't trying to suggest you say anything to your wife. And yes, things have happened to cars I've owned in other people's hands. I've gotten in accidents that weren't my fault etc. I'm just saying these things that hare happening to you as you've explained them thus far do not seem to fit how upset you are, and was encouraging you to keep things in perspective. That's all. No harm no foul.

It's hard for me to continue at this point so I will take a quick break and move on to Wed. 2/26/2014 shortly as the story just keeps getting worse at this point. I want so bad to post on here soon that GM and the dealership has made me 100% satisfied. I am GM guy down to the bone (over 20 new purchases over the last 27 years) but this is just spiraling out of control at this point.

It's hard for you to continue? Spiraling out of control? It just seems like you're over-reacting to me. Mistakes (the scratch) happen - especially when you're dealing with other human beings. They admitted the mistake and are making every effort to make you whole. It's not like your car burned down in your garage or the dealership service manager is sleeping with your wife. Keep things in perspective, brother. They'll probably fix it to your satisfaction and you guys can call it a day.

I'm sorry to have upset you, it really wasn't my intention and I wasn't trying to minimize your frustration (which is justified) at all.

If your car buying experiences have gone like this and you just accept it you need some confidence counseling.

WE need counseling? Ok, now I'm convinced you are a troll. Should've known better than to get sucked in...you win.

At this day and age it is very easy to find out about problems with new vehicles. My neighbor, who goes through trucks like I go through socks, did his homework and avoided Ford's "Ecoboost V6" on his new F150.

OK good I'm glad you are leaving the thread. No I am not a "troll" or what ever you mean by that. I am simply a person that has a brand new truck with less than 50 miles that I had for 1 day sitting at my dealership for a week as of today. What exactly do you expect me to do at this point? The payment book came in the mail today also would you like to make the first months payment on something you don't even have?

Hopin to cash is a name taken from my tournament fishing page, not put here as representation of my agenda.

Did the dealer give you a free loaner? It sounds like the dealer is trying to make it right.....frustrating sure, but if the dealer is doing what they can and helping you out, I wouldn't pull the eject handle on GM. Maybe contact the GM Customer Service reps that hang out here and see if they can help facilitate the fix.

I'm not expecting you do do anything, my man. I'm merely submitting my point of view given what you've told us so far. But my humble opinion is just that, my opinion. I'm not trying to piss you off or anything like that, but jesus man, shit happens.

In reality things probably aren't "spiraling out of control." It's a car brother. A hunk of lifeless metal put together and cared for by imperfect human beings. Just relax, be thankful that they sat your wife in a loaner (probably) so that she can go to and fro, and let them do what they need to do to make you whole. I'm just trying to help you step back from the proverbial ledge and keep cool. In my experience everyone would be better off, and you'll probably build some good will and they will go further to make it right.

I'll leave it at that brother. I apologize for coming across perhaps too harshly. Good luck.

I am so sorry to hear what happened to you! Let me tell you, while you don't want to hear this, and while I would NOT have accepted a repaired truck, it can be worse! But that doesn't mean your issue is no big deal. You need to make them replace that truck, the longer you accept it the worse your case is.

Anyway, so here is my story:

A few months ago, I go into my Chevy dealer and put down 10k in cash on a 2013 Equinox LTZ. Two days later, with 59 miles on it some girl runs a stopsign texting and t-bones me. They fix the truck, but it's not right.. Play in the suspension, creaks in the interior, etc.. After months of going back and forth with her insurance (Mercury) they tell me all they can do is keep trying to fix it, or they will give me a few grand to accept it at 95% (They had fixed the suspension at this point, however I FOUND the problem, and told them the part to replace) but the interior was still creaking and the repaint was horrible, they thought they would have to redo it. Plus I was having electrical issues now.

Anyway, I decide I am going to cut my losses. I am paying hundreds a month on a vehicle I don't want anymore. It's not my new car. I bring it back and trade it in, and take a $9k loss. CASH. I put 20k down in CASH this time on my 2014 Silverado Z71 LTZ. Two weeks later a 90 year old woman blacks out and side swipes it while it's parked on the side of the road.... She too, has Mercury insruance... Now I am ready to just jump off a cliff.. I wonder if I can ever have anything nice... Luckily the step took the impact, and all it was was some scratches on the back bed, a new side step and a dent where the bottom of the front fender meets the drivers side door.. They were able to fix it for a few grand, and it's as good or better than brand new, it looks amazing again.. On top of that I went after them this time for diminished value and was able to get a couple grand for my troubles..

I hope your story turns out well too! I am loving my truck everyday, that new car smell, the ride, everything! I just put my HID's in and it looks great!
