Try 1991 Mercedes 560 SEL. Flagship of the Mercedes fleet that year. $75k new. Zero cupholders.

I had a 1984 300SD back in highschool as a beater... Not one cup holder In the entire thing.. Had a built in phone though...

I had a 2010 bench seat and those cupholders were great. Big opening with four rubber flaps on each side.

These in the 14 with bench seat will fit a Red Bull. Or a shot glass. A standard 12 oz can I would think would be tight (I dont drink em). Some water bottles will fit, if they are skinny. I have tons of aluminum 24 - 32 oz water bottles and I end up lying them down on top of arm rest or leaning them on it in passenger seat.

Stupid, stupid design.

I think they work fine, they hold our coffee cups and soda cans tight but they are not going anywhere on a bumpy road. Plus I just spent 40k on a pickup I do not want anyone drinking a big gulp in that thing and spilling some sticky drink all over the place.

Coming from my last vehicles I have not quite figured out what to do with all of the space in the crew cab truck yet.

I don't know if it's true or not but I once read that none of the German brands had cup holders until they started selling here and had to add them to stay competitive. Yuppies in their E-class or 5-series need their lattes I guess.

Its illegal to drink or eat in your car while driving in many European countries. I lived in England from 2000-2005, none of the cars had cup holders.

Maybe that's why they prefer to drive cars with manual transmissions.

It's more than a few reasons. One big reason is that drivers licensing is tiered with endorsements of a separate manual or automatic. A person with a manual endorsement can legally drive an automatic, but an automatic endorsement does not allow them to drive a manual. Coupled also with the fact it is a cultural thing with being able to drive a stick having more clout than a automatic only driver.

Cell phone use in automobiles across the pond is illegal too. I like when people from the uk come over here for business. Had a guy ask me how many liters my truck was, told him 6.2 his eyes lit up and about passed out.

Thats because they pay insurance and road tax based on the size of the motor

That and they pay something like $8 or more per gallon of fuel there. Must suck to be a car guy of modest means over there- you'd be stuck in some tin can compact.

The reason why gas is so expensive over there is that it is taxed heavily. Most of those taxes are used to maintain the roads and other infrastructure and perhaps help pay for public health care as well.

I know why it's priced so high. Not worth it. Europe has already proven their economic system is not viable over the long term.
