BillWho 2014 GMC Build Thread

The following modifications were made to my 2014 GMC Sierra Crew Cab with longer bed truck:

1. Installed a 2" Belltech rear shackle drop kit. My primary reason was to make it easier for me to load stuff where I lift up a corner onto the bed and then slide the rest into the bed. 2" lower at the tailgate makes a surprisingly big difference for an old coot like me. My secondary reason was it makes the truck look better.

2) A Peragon bed cover was installed. My reason for Peragon is because the whole cover can be easily taken out and thus provides the full bed length for large stuff sometimes carried. I also owned a Peragon on my 2011 GMC and it did well for me.

3) Put GMC mud flaps on the front and rear wheel wells. I've noticed this truck gets dirty looking aft of the front and rear wheel wells more so than my previous 2011 GMC Sierra (that was also essentially the same color). The pictures in the link below show mud on the fenders because the truck has not been washed since the installation. Cold here in NC and it may be a while before a washing takes place.

4) Put AMP Research side steps on both sides of the bed. I had one side step on my previous truck and found it helped considerably in loading and tying down stuff near the cab, inspecting the load, etc. I am 5'8" (used to be two inches taller but have shrunk!) and this helps me considerably. Like the subtitle says, these mods were old man convenience mods.

5) Put the GM bed extender from my 2011 truck in this truck using AMP Research's quick release clips. The GM bed extender was originally made by AMP Research thus the clips fit perfectly. The quick release clips were necessary because the bed cover rails extend over the inside of the bed just enough to prevent the bed extender from rotating back and forth. With the quick release clips the bed liner can be slid into the bed and then clipped into place to be a corral for keeping stuff in place. Unclip the extender, slid it out of the truck, flip it over and snap it into the quick release clips and thus the bed liner is positioned as a bed extender over the tailgate.

6) Weathertech bed liner was previously installed and is doing fine with no complaints.

7) Installed a Jimmijammer Gate Keeper on the tail gate.

The folks at G&G Automotive Asheboro, NC installed these accessories (see picture). They enjoy tricking out all kinds of vehicles ranging from old man mods for folks like me to truly hot street rod customizations. http://www.ggautoent.com/

Ryan, they are seated flush and tight to/against the fender metal. The installer mentioned he put five attachment bolts in each rear flap. The bolts together with the inherent rigidness of GM's flap design explains why the flap is big time stiff. I already see where there is a possibility to damage the fender should one back into a stump or other immovable object high enough to contact the flap. That flap is not going to bend much, so it will be interesting to see what gives way first in that kind of situation. Will it be the plastic around the flap bolts? Will it be the inner fender well? Will it be the underside of the fender/wheel well metal? Hard to predict.

Thanks for sharing the ideas and pictures. Truck looks good. I am in the middle of trying to decide what mud flaps, bed side step, and box cover to go with, so it is always nice getting and seeing another owners ideas.
