Recommended Posts

Was anyone able actually figure out the problem my truck has 40000 miles. I went to start my truck a single click and the whole thing died out I need a jump start every time but I k ow it’s not the battery I just replaced it two weeks ago! Any solutions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Well I haven't read through this entire thread but I can tell you that at 33,000 miles, went out to my truck one day this summer and...one click, nothing, wouldn't start. Tried jumping it. Tried hitting the starter. Nothing. Had it towed to the dealer and of course it started right up! Dealer said that they were able to duplicate the problem and replaced the starter...haven't had a problem since. 2018 Silverado. Funny thing is, this all happened after a rain storm we had the night before, but there was no evidence of any water damage to any wires or anything.

Had similar problem with my GM 6.0 v8 starter staying engaged longer than normal and when truck did start, it ran very erratic for a bit.

Only did this when it sat for a few hours

Chevy Dealership had it 4 days. Reviewed all tech update, etc.

They checked: starter & solenoid, injectors, fuel pump, ECM = still scratching there head!!  Finally one tech checked the AMPS at Smart Start = LOW AMPS

They put a NEW battery on the truck, starts and runs like new again!!!!

Guys, check out the battery as wells. Check starting AMPS

I am 69 and worked on all my hot cars for years, never would have thought a weak battery could jack with the electronics this way.

The old battery would crank the truck with out dragging or giving any indication of a weak battery.  COMPUTERS!

My 2018 Silverado 1500 just started doing the same thing. It began after I attempted a remote start and it tried to turn over and quit. I then used the key to start it and it would not do anything. The dash lights were all on but there wasn’t even a click to the ignition. Tried to jump start it and that didn’t work. Finally got back in the truck with the jump start and put foot on brake and it started.

Happened again two days later after no problems for 2 days. That time a guy who worked as a mechanic who saw me having a problem suggested clicking the key 3 times as if to just turn on the radio and then stepping on the brake and then starting. It started.

This is exactly what it is.. same thing happened to mine on day 2 of ownership. The tow company called me before coming out and told me what to do.

1. Hit the lock button on the key fob.

2. Hit the unlock button on the key fob.

3. Jump in truck and start 'er up.

And it started right up.. phew. Also, he said if that didn't work to put the key in the door and lock, unlock, lock, etc. to get the security to disable.

I don't know how the security system disabled it but it did and that fixed my problem quick. Hope this helps some of you!

Can confirm tried everything threw first 4 pages tried this bam started.... weird

I'm anxious to hear what the dealer experiences and what they have to say.

giloma - when yours wouldn't start, did it even crank? If not, the jump start might not have really been needed. As with my issues, you try to start it and it just clicks (no starter activity), wait a bit and try again and it fires right up. The batt is strong. It may have been a result of the timing rather than the jump starter. OR... you had a low battery :dunno:

Did they ever figure it out? Mines doing same thing

I have a 2016 Silverado and I may have an ignition issue Sometimes when I try to turn it over it doesn't start or to word it better , it doesn't acknowledge at all

So for the odd few times this has happened I manage to get it to neutral and it starts

Yeah hopefully nothing too serious  🤔

i have a 2015 silverado, 1500, 5.3, had this issue,6 months ago, turn the key heard on little click and nothing, tested everything, and the starter ended up testing out bad, put a new one in and it was problem solved, till this week, (6 months later) so i went through all the tests again, batt, fuse's, and once again, the starter, it tested out fine, but i got a new one just to be sure, still no go, i found this youtube video i posted above, and in the video he shows you how to send power directly to the starter, (with key off), with a piece of wire, and my truck tried to turn over! (but it wont start with the key off) so, i put the said relay back it, and my truck fired right up! this was the only video that should be all the fuses and relays and how to test,(even though the truck in the video runs fine), hope this helps the commons no start club membership!
