Rancher grille guard sets off collision detection

Recommended Posts

Anyone out there get a Rancher grille guard for their 2014 LTZ and NOT setting off their fron sensors?

I ordered mine and the place installed it for me. We even discussed it and ordered the one for the truck with the collision sensors in the front bumper.

it buzzed a couple times on my drive home, but i stopped behind another vehicle and didn't think about it.

But after backing into my drive, the front sensors are going off like crazy. Nothing there. Same thing in the morning... start the truck, put it in gear and buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Called the guy monday morning as soon as they opened and so far the best he got from the rancher people is that "maybe you have to jiggle the front brace a little to get it to not set off the sensor".

Anyone run into this with their grille guard?

ya, i just found that site, too. Silly me, I relied upon the "specialist" at the store to get me a grille guard that would work with the sensors! :P

I'll see if I can snap some pics later. The guard does add that extra "umph"... but it looks like i may need to send it back and go for plan B http://shop.ironcrossautomotive.com/p/24-515-14-2014-silverado-1500-front-bumper-full-guard

The only guard I've found that doesn't interfere with the sensors is ranch hand. Same with front bumper replacements as far as utilizing the sensors. I would make the shop refund you and pick out something else you like.

I've been waiting for something else to come out that still utilized the sensors. I paid for the option and want to keep them...

I've only seen the iron cross bumper portion on the 2014 and I really didn't like the way it looked...

as it turns out, all i remembered was "ranch.." something something..... lol.

it was the ranch hand that i had installed. so much for paying attention to detail. i just got off the phone with the guy at the shop and he's all set to give it some adjusting as needed to get it to work. if we can't, he's got no problem sending it back and refunding the money.

though, i'll likely get the iron cross bumper/grille guard instead. i gotta get me a grille guard.

oh, and on the iron cross.... although they don't have the holes for the sensors, my installer has installed them in the past. he drills the holes. (given that it was MY memory that was lacking on the name of the grille guard, i have faith in him :D ) But i agree, paid for a feature, gotta keep it.

This is what I was planning if nothing comes out soon.

hmm... not sure why it posted twice

I like that renegade. looks pretty beefy.

What'd you do for a tonneau cover? anything? again, i forgot the name, but it's a folding one that unlatches from the bottom so it's "lockable".

Honestly I'd go with a full replacement. I bet they didn't make the bumpers on the 2014 any stronger than they were before. :)

I've already had to replace all the bs plastic on it. I'm just waiting till there is one out that I like enough or I mess up mine again

I didn't do a cover, I don't like them and I use my bed too much to add one. If I did I would probably go with fold-a-cover for my use because it has 4 sections

Howdy OP. I have a 14 GMC slt with the front sensors and have a Frontier installed. (I said a ranch hand but it is a Frontier). No problems with mine. The guy that did it has been doing accessories for quite sometime and triple checks all his install jobs.

Said first one he did too twice as long as it kept setting them off. Mine was the first GMC he did and took him about half the time. Bet it just needs a little adjustment.

I hit a deer 3 weeks after getting my pickups so getting a guarde was a priority as wanted to have a bit more protection.

I know on the GMT900s with rear parking sensors you can disconnect the battery and pull the fuse for them and it will relearn the computer without that feature... it was done that way for upfitters... maybe they built something similar in for the front park sensors....

Are you talking about disconnecting them completely and getting rid of the feature all together? If so this can be done in the menu settings
