Help - removing tail lights, etc

Recommended Posts

trying to remove my tail lights and cargo light to change out bulbs to better ones. I removed the 2 screws holding the tail light.. but it won't come out. Scared to yank on it.. dont want to break.

Same thing with the cargo light.. removed those screws.. it doesn't want to come out..

Figured I'd post our PM, in case anyone else has trouble in the future:

"The taillights have two plastic/rubber tipped pins (shaped like mushrooms) coming out the back, roughly parallel to top/bottom bulbs. Basically, you have to remove the two screws, then work until you can get your fingers behind the top & bottom edges. Work the light in a see-saw motion, in a rearward direction, slowly increasing the force. You'll be hesitant, thinking it's going to break, but it won't. Make sure to stand close to the light because, when it finally does pop out, it'll do so without warning. If you're too far back you might pull on wiring accidentally (you have about 6" of slack with light removed).

The cargo light sometimes sticks because of the black rubber seal they used. It's not the permanent adhesive type, but it is a little tacky to the touch. After removing screws, use something plastic to pry up enough to get a finger under, then just pull and she'll come off."
